Scott McMicken IT Test Pressing

Relisted due to non-payment

This is one of 10 Test Pressings made for the Scott McMicken Soild Gold LP, "It".  There were only 200 copies of the actual LP, and they have sold on ebay for over $300 for just the standard yellow issue.

All proceeds go to benefit the estate of Edmond Lapine, who died in the Oakland Ghostship fire on Dec 3rd, 2016.  Proceeds will be used to press an LP of his music, which will be given to his friends and family and sold to benefit a scholarship in Edmond's name at his Alma Mater, Evergreen State College.  For more info about the project and Edmond, please read below.

We are selling many extremely rare PIAPTK and Soild Gold Test Pressings and releases.  Search ebay for "EdLap".  You can also hear Edmond's music and donate to the cause by going to the Edmond Lapine Benefit page on Bandcamp.

ABOUT THIS AUCTION

Hi. I run PIAPTK Records.  My very old friend, roommate, bandmate, road trip buddy and just generally amazing man, Edmond Lapine, was killed in the GhostShip Fire in Oakland, CA on December 2nd.   They didn’t recover his body in the rubble on December 4th.  For the many people that loved Edmond, the unknowns of Dec. 3rd were unbearable.  Was he there?  He said he was going to be.  Did he make it out?  Was he in the hospital? As time went on, hope dwindled, and it wasn’t until a couple days later that, what we sort of knew to be true, was confirmed.

Chances are pretty high, that if you are reading this, you have been to a similar show at a house party, warehouse, or otherwise unsafe venue and this could have been you or I.

Edmond was a talented and prolific musician. He didn’t promote his music, he wasn’t out there trying to convince you to hear it.  He made it because he loved it, and he collaborated with plenty of people and played in bands, just for the joy of it. He had eclectic taste, and his music reflected that:  EDM, Shoegaze, indie pop, stompy blues fuzz, harsh noise, etc.  His effervescent, but occasionally dark sense of humor runs through it all.

Shortly after his death, my ex-wife said something to the effect of “Ed would have laughed so hard at the idea of being killed while at an after hours dance party in an arts warehouse”, and I think that sums Ed up pretty well. Nobody knows when/where/how they are going, and we all hope we can get as much time as possible, but I think we can all hope that when we go, we are in the middle of doing something we love.  And at the very least, we can be confident that Edmond was. He was a fixture in the Olympia music scene when I knew him.  Not always on stage, but always in the audience. He supported artists and loved off-beat, underground and fringe cultures of all types.

I miss my friend. I miss the long drives we took up the peninsula.  I miss swimming with him.  I miss sitting in our backyard and drinking with him until the early morning, talking about everything and nothing.

I wanted to sell these Test Pressings to raise money to help Ed’s family with funeral expenses, but his mother insisted I use it in a tribute or dedication in some way.  So, we settled on using the money to produce something tangible for his friends and family by curating a compilation of Ed’s various recordings and collaborations, and releasing an LP.  The LP will be a collaboration between myself and many of the friends and artists whom Ed touched in life. It will be a celebration of his art, and a way to remember him in a format that he would have loved.

Proceeds from the sales of these Test Pressings and the accompanying Edmond Lapine Bandcamp Pay-What-You-Want Compilation will be used to make a 7” or LP of his music. Any leftover funds, or funds generated by sales of the LP after production will be used for a scholarship fund set up in his name at his alma mater, The Evergreen State College.

Although you are probably pretty bummed if you’ve read this far, it is important to remember that Edmond lived his life in a positive, excited, and upbeat manner, and we want people to feel that, rather than sadness, in his memory.  By bidding on these test pressings, or contributing at his bandcamp, you are celebrating his life and allowing us to make something beautiful to honor our friend.

What Edmond would have wanted us to take away from his death would be to live your life with purpose, to be deliberate, and to not let fear rob you of experiences. Edmond was generous with praise and verbalizing his love and admiration for his friends around him, and I’m very happy to say that I was with Edmond the last few times I saw him this summer. Please be the same with the ones you love.
