Blue Note is loved, revered, respected and recognized as one of the most important record labels in the history of popular music. In the late 1950s, many Blue Note artists were moving from Charlie Parker style Hard Bop towards a more accessible Funky Blues style which would feed through into Soul by the end of the 1960s.
Art Blakey & the Jazz Messengers led this trend as heard on the first track “Moanin’”. Art could probably claim to be one of the greatest jazz drummers ever with his unique style driving his own and countless other groups recording on Blue Note and elsewhere. The line-up on this classic album includes Lee Morgan, Benny Golson, Bobbie Timmons and Jymie Merritt.
Record Grading and Condition: G+ This copy is a US Import bought in the UK during the 1960s and played regularly at that time. The disc has been inspected to find some visible scratches across Side 2 plus other faint surface scratches but plays OK with some light noise.
Sleeve Grading: G Scuffing and wear particularly at the corners, discoloration of notes side due to usage and age. The Blue Note interior sleeve is captioned “BLUE NOTE”, with “BLAKEY” handwritten on both sides.
Label & Authentication: Blue Note Records Inc, 43 West 61st St, New York 23; RVG (Rudy Van Gelder) initials machine pressed into the run-out on both sides, dating production to 1958-62.
Note to intending buyers: This posting is from a collection of Blue Note LPs of varying quality and rarity bought in the 1960s then stored until now. Each record on sale is over 50 years old, so I have tried to be deliberately conservative in stating rating levels of Good+/Good according to Ebay guidelines. All feedback will be gratefully received. Thanks in advance.
