ALBUM INFO:
This is an early pressing of "L.A. Getaway", the sole album by L.A. canyon "supergroup", issued by ATCO Records, November 1971.

Having more or less made his debut as the R&B-minded bass player with the Flying Burrito Brothers, Chris Etheridge soon went on to become one of Americana’s most in-demand session players, serving with everyone from Phil Ochs to Ry Cooder to Judy Collins. There’s a good chance that you can find him on more than one of your favorite records.

 

A less recognized part of Ethridge’s career, however, is his time served as a member of Hill, Barbata & Ethridge, a tight congregation of musicians who had until the band’s formation only really been seen working the sidelines of the nascent country rock movement. 

 

John Barbata probably had the highest profile of any of them, having spent several years manning the kit for sardonic folk rockers The Turtles, while singer Joel Scott Hill had only cut a couple of solo sides for small independent labels out of the west coast.

Numerous uncredited guest appearances on the record, including keyboard performances by Dr. John and Leon Russell. In many ways, producer Paul Rothchild (also not credited on the jacket or labels) used is cache to bring in as much talent on one record as he possibly could, while still retaining the band's overall group identity. 
As well, in relation to this, Etheridge's performances are fabulous, particularly on his rare lead vocal on the title track. Barbata also shines on all of the cuts, and his playing dwarfs some of his other, excellent work on records by CSN&Y and the Turtles.

ADDITIONAL INFO: 

LP was part of a collection that had been in storage 20+ years in a dry, smoke-free environment. I applied light cleaning with soft micro-fiber cloth and isopropyl alcohol/distilled water solution to remove prints and dirt, which gives it a nice shine.

ITEM CONDITION (see Goldmine Standards below for details)

DISC: VG; VPI CLEANED! Both sides visually VG closer to VG+, and plays closer to VG+. Minor surface marks, sounds gr8! Clean labels. Always be sure your turntable's arm/stylus' weight and anti-skate settings are properly set for optimum performance.

COVER: VG-; Surface & ring wear. Spine wear, cut-out notch at the top and ink writing on the front. No taping, cut corners or punch holes. Been in storage since the early 90s in a smoke-free environment. (see photo)

GOLDMINE STANDARD VINYL CONDITION CODES:

NEAR MINT/EXC: A nearly perfect record. Disc shows no obvious signs of wear. A 45 RPM or EP sleeve should have no more than the most minor defects, such as almost invisible ring wear or other signs of slight handling.

An LP cover should have no creases, folds, seam splits or other noticeable similar defects. No cut-out holes, either. The same for any inserts, such as posters, lyric sleeves etc...

EXC- minus: The disc shows some very slight signs of having been played, with very little lessening in sound quality, and barely noticeable,  extremely isolated but light surface noise. Labels have minimal spindle marks. The cover and packaging might have slight wear but excellent aspect overall. 

VERY GOOD+: A VG+ records show some signs that it was played and otherwise handled by a previous owner who took good care of it.

Record surfaces may show some signs of wear and may have slight scuffs or very light scratches that don't affect one's listening experiences. Slight warps that do not affect the sound are "OK".

The label may have some ring wear or discoloration, but it should be barely noticeable. The center hole will not have been misshapen by repeated play.

Picture sleeves and LP inner sleeves will have some slight wear, lightly turned up corners, or a slight seam split. An LP cover may have slight signs of wear also and may be marred by a cut-out hole, indentation or corner indicating it was taken out of print and sold at a discount.

VERY GOOD:  Goldmine price guides with more than one price will list Very Good as many of the defects found in a VG+ record will be more pronounced in a VG disc. Surface noise will be evident upon playing, especially in soft passages and during a song's intro and fade, but will not overpower the music otherwise. Groove wear will start to be noticeable, as with light scratches (deep enough to feel with a fingernail) that will affect the sound.

Labels may be marred by writing, or have tape or stickers (or their residue) attached. The same will be true of picture sleeves or LP covers. However, it will not have all of these problems at the same time, only two or three of them. 

VERY GOOD minus- : Any wear n' tear seen in a VG is more enhanced in a VG- disc but not quite to a G+/G rating. The record still plays through without skipping, so it can serve as filler until something better comes along. But it has some obvious surface noise and groove wear. The labels maybe worn, with ring wear, heavy writing, or obvious damage caused by someone trying to remove tape or stickers and failing miserably. A VG– cover has ring wear to the point of distraction, some discoloring/fading, at least 1 seam split and may have even heavier writing, such as, for example, huge radio station letters written across the front to deter theft.

GOOD/GOOD+: Good does not mean Bad! A record in Good or Good+ Plus condition can be put onto a turntable and will play through without skipping. But it will have significant surface noise and scratches and sometimes visible groove wear.

A cover or sleeve will have seam splits, especially at the bottom or on the spine. Tape, writing, ring wear or other defects will start to overwhelm the object.

POOR or FAIR: The record is cracked, badly warped, and won't play through without skipping or repeating. The picture sleeve is water damaged, split on all three seams and heavily marred by wear and writing. The LP cover barely keeps the LP inside it. Inner sleeves are fully seam split, crinkled, and written upon. ______________________________________________________________

International Shipping: When orders shipped internationally reach the destination country, they may be subject to customs clearance procedures, which can cause delays beyond original delivery estimates, and is out of our control.
