"Equal measures indie, post-punk, electronic, industrial and garage rock; this Boston collective's debut LP launches a sonic campaign that is surely greater than the sum of its varied parts" - WMPG Portland's Charlie Sea

The Wax Skulls are an indie rock collective from Boston. Their debut album "Postmodern Residue" was written and recorded during 2019 & 2020. Produced by Paul Eeno and performed by an assortment of local musicians, this record covers a lot of ground in 8 tracks.

Side A's "Rubberneck" and "Interloper" entail a duet that's reminiscent of The Kills and is situated atop a chorus of warm and wooly guitars. "Bulls and Bears" and "Acting Strange" delve into darker territory, striking a more industrial chord. These tracks call upon analog bass synths, buzz-saw guitars and retro samples to conjure a vibe that's reminiscent of Nine Inch Nails but distinctly the Wax Skulls.

Side B opens with "Bloom", a six minute eclectic-rock anthem. This track is dripping with phased echoey guitars and blossoming instrumentals; bringing to mind some of Wilco's edgier endeavors. "New Normal" employs a bluesy garage-rock vibe that pays homage to the Black Keys. First broadcast under Portland's beloved radio call sign (WMPG), "Nonplussed" leans hard on vintage drum machines, filter gates, overdriven guitars and vocal synths to tell a story that is best viewed interpreted through an oscilloscope. "Crypto Doll"s aggressive vocals close out the LP and feel somehow apropos to the times.

This record was recorded at The Attic and Studio South, mixed & mastered at Chillhouse Studios in Boston and was pressed to black and (limited run) transparent blue vinyl by Gotta Groove Records in Cleveland.
