Blow-Up Original Sound Track LP 1966 1st Press MGM Records SE-447ST Herbie Handcock The Yardbirds EX

The music from this Cult Classic movie was composed, conducted and played by Herbie Handcock.  The brilliant young composer was hand-picked by Director Antonioni (himself a Jazz fan), to write the score for Blow-Up.  Handcock, whose best-known work is a simple gospel-influenced tune, Watermelon Man, popularized by Mongo Santamaria, provided a wide variety of material for the film; blues, rock and roll, abstract jazz, Latin-American tunes and even a couple of "Mancini-ish" numbers.  Born in Chicago 1940, Hancock has apprenticed as pianist-composer to among others, Donald Byrd, Phil Woods, Oliver Nelson and Miles Davis.  Most recently he has been identified with the jazz avant-garde-those musicians who are working in various ways toward greater spontaneity and "freedom" in their music.  His score for Blow-Up reflects this concern.

The Yardbirds - The five Yardbirds who appear in the Blow-Up Jazz Club and final party scene, got their start in England.  Replacing the Rolling Stones as the resident instrumental vocal group at the Crawdaddy Club, they helped establish this night spot as one of the post popular "let-loose" teenage places in England.

Mint (M) - Pristine, Looks as if it just came off the manufacturing line, also listed as New, Mint Sealed/Unopened.

Near Mint (NM) - Looks as if it just came from a store and was opened for the first time, maybe played a few times if ever, no evidence of play or wear what-so-ever.

Excellent (EX) or Very Good ++ (VG ++) - LP may have a faint surface mark or two barring it from being truly Near Mint, but sound quality will be be affected at all, Cover Sleeve is just short of Near Mint , often used for cover sleeve in Shrink, or with no Ring Wear or Staining or easily visible flaws whatsoever, seam and spine fully intact.

Very Good Plus (VG+) - Shows slight signs of wear, slight scuffs or scratches may be present but they do not affect playback other than faint surface noise heard sporadically in between tracks, or the occasional soft click from surface mark here or there, Cover Sleeve is considered still "Frameable" yet when observed closely will show to have a flaw or small flaws, very minor.  Ring Wear if any, seam and spine intact but not Pristine.

Very Good/Very Good Plus (VG/VG+) - More obvious signs of wear and handling, LP has surface noise that is noticeable in some spots but perhaps is quiet and clean in other spots, clicks and pops will be heard, but will not significantly disrupt the music.  Cover Sleeve shows more obvious Ring Wear or marks/staining, seams may have cracking, minor seam splitting or some missing spine text but are still fairly well intact. Writing may be present on label.

Very Good (VG) - Significant and obvious wear and handling includes surface noise throughout, audible scratches which causes clicks and pops and crackle but no skips or repeated grooves, Cover Sleeve may have significant Ringwear and/or staining, seam splits may be evident, label or sleeve may have writing, name, stickers etc.
