Top Jimmy & The Rhythm Pigs was one of the L.A. Punk scenes legendary bands, and Top Jimmy one of its legendary characters along with Carlos Guitarlos!  Gill T rounded out the group that rubbed shoulders with X, The Germs, The Blasters, The Plugz, & Los Lobos back when a lot of fringe music was stirred into the punk scene centered at The Cathay de Grande.  In fact, X’s DJ Bonebrake contributes drums (as did Tony & Joey Morales), & Los Lobos’ Steve Berlin produced and lent saxophone to the proceedings. The Blasters’ piano man Gene Taylor supplied piano.  Mark Linett recorded and mixed it to perfection—just as you’d expect a guy who’s worked with The Beach Boys to do!  A classic album by a true cult band.

Trouser Press described the band’s only album as “enthusiastic sweaty abandon” and another L.A. music writer Chris Morris called them; “L.A. punk’s house band.”  Their Pigus*Drunkus*Maximus LP is a 1987 release on RESTLESS Records (7222-1) with the cool plastic Restless Insert listing all their bands on it.

Interesting trivia: Top Jimmy got his nickname because he worked at (and gave handouts to fellow rockers) at Top Taco, and he was immortalized in Van Halen’s song TOP JIMMY on their album 1984.
