Beginning with his own college dance band, through service as an Air Force dance band leader, and followed by playing saxophone in prominent traveling orchestras, Jay become devoted to playing music "sweet with a beat" for dancers and listeners alike. Jay, playing lead saxophone, leads the band on the arrangements of his musical arrangers, Wally Wenger, Ed Burbach, Bernard Press, and Harry Lewis, with whom he works closely in maintaining the "Music Designed with You in Mind" style. That this is a successful musical team is attested to by the acclaim of dancers at ballrooms, hotels, fraternal, dance and country clubs. The Jay Wieder Orchestra has appeared on TV, NBC, CBS, and ABC radio, and has accompanied singers, TV and movie stars at national conventions. The orchestra is proud of the special citation awards it by the National Ballroom Operators Association in Chicago, for having top quality danceable music.
