This lot contains eight 10-inch 78 RPM records featuring Paul Whiteman and His Orchestra, all in the 1920's jazz or dance band genre, and all on the Victor "batwing" label. Please note, however, that two of the 16 sides are not by Paul Whiteman, so please pay attention as you read through the list of titles. Also, apart from the last one (which is credited to "Paul Whiteman and His Ambassador Orchestra"), the Paul Whiteman sides are all labeled as "Paul Whiteman and His Orchestra."
All 16 sides are included in Brian Rust's "American Dance Band Discography", but I won't bore you with the details, except to say the recording dates all fall within the period of 1920-1924. Also, sides are instrumental except when a vocal credit is listed (in parentheses).
All eight are shown in the first picture, then in pairs, both sides, in the following order:
Victor # 18940 - "Three O'Clock in the Morning" and "Oriental Fox Trot."
Victor # 18842 - "Just a Little Love Song" and "Ty-Tee."
Victor # 18966 - "Lovely Lucerne" by the Great White Way Orchestra (yodel chorus by Frank Kamplain); and "Romany Love."
Victor # 18872 - "Jimmy" and "After the Rain."
Victor # 19487 - "All Alone"; and "I Wonder What's Become of Sally" by the Troubadours.
Victor # 18865 - "Cutie" and "Lonesome Hours."
Victor # 18899 - "Stumbling" and "Georgia."
Victor # 18690 - "Whispering" and "The Japanese Sandman."
Visually, most of them range in condition from about VG+ or better down to about VG, some less shiny than others and with more visible surface wear. I played them all on my Audio-Technica turntable, and the only one that I would rate well below VG was "After the Rain", which had a couple of repeats, and I would therefore rate it as "unplayable." And there was only one forward jump (no more repeats), and that was near the beginning of "Ty-Tee." Otherwise, there was mostly just typical light background noise, but with some scattered clicks and pops and passages of ticking. Because of variations in tracking ability, filtering technology and needle weights, I can offer no guarantees as to how well they will play on your equipment. Please also check the pictures for any label damage including inscriptions and stickers.
International Buyers – Please Note: Import duties, taxes, and charges are not included in the item price or shipping cost. These charges are the buyer's responsibility. Please check with your country's customs office to determine what these additional costs will be prior to bidding or buying. Customs fees are normally charged by the shipping company or collected when you pick the item up. These fees are not additional shipping charges. We won't under-value merchandise or mark the item as a gift on customs forms. Doing that is against U.S. and international laws.
COMBINED SHIPPING: See our seller list for other interesting and unusual items, in fact bid on several and you might save on shipping and handling. If you buy multiple items, and if it's feasible and cost-effective for us to ship the items together, we will gladly consider requests to combine shipping at a reduced cost. Just e-mail us, and we can provide combined shipping cost estimates on a case-by-case basis. Depending on weight and other considerations, we typically offer full shipping rate for the first item, then 50 cents or $1.00 per item. And if you are purchasing multiple items, please make the payment as a single payment, rather than trying to pay for each item separately. Oh, and this may sound obvious, but we can't reduce the shipping charges for items on which we offer free shipping.
