ABOUT THE RECORD Grover Sings the Blues, comes from Sesame Street's innovative golden period. The project attracted lots of talent, boasting harmonica virtuoso Toots Thieleman on the show's theme song; Jim Henson in the flesh rather than as a symbolic figurehead; and future Hollywood deal-makers such as Frank Oz bringing life to characters such as Grover, who gets the spotlight here. Musically speaking, I Am Blue is the star of the album with its spare piano accompaniment, suggesting Ella Fitzgerald if she were blue and furry. The album seems largely the work of Joe Raposo, who is credited as producer and musical director. In the latter capacity, he came up with the best numbers, such as Has Anybody Seen My Dog?, an enjoyable ditty that would make any listener's short list of Sesame Street greatest hits.
