BBC transcription cds are probably the rarest radio shows around - much less common than the lps. They were only available to radio stations that subscribed to the transcription service and are regular cds not cd-rs, and each one is individually numbered by machine printing on the disc (presumably so they can keep track of who they have been issued to). They are nearly always numbered less than 100 - this Beach Boys disc is actually numbered less than 30. Of course the sound quality is the best as the actual discs were used for broadcast.
BBC TCD 1114. Made in England 1996.
SMILE
Radio documentary with plenty of Beach Boys music demos etc from Smile - no doubt much came out on the Smile official release (unfortunately I don't have any cue sheets and the disc never came with a booklet).
It is not the same as the "BBC Smile Documentary" that can be found on some websites. This one starts with original Smile radio ad, the first words by presenter are "But they didn't, in fact Capitol Records sold no units at all. Hello I'm Bill Scanlon-Murphy". Then music from Pet Sounds "Wouldn't it be nice" excerpt. First interview piece is with Brian Wilson at 2'16" "Well my brother Carl and I had held a series of prayer sessions for the world....".
Other interviews with Terry Melcher (at 10'30"), Van Dyke Parks (11'22")...Hal Blaine (19'40"), Bruce Johnston (22'13") . Vegetables is at 22'55". The last words are by Brian Wilson at 57'20". ".. that's a bad area for me".
Duration: 57'45"
