THE BEATLES - A HARD DAY'S NIGHT

1964 UK MONO 12" LP 1st pressing  Parlophone PMC 1230

Matrix Numbers : Side 1  XEX 481 - 3N, stampers 6 (I think - difficult to make out),  G D D;  Side 2  XEX 482 - 3N, stampers 3, G AM

A very nice copy of this classic, sought after 1963 UK LP

Both sides of the heavy duty vinyl have retained much of their original lacquered sheen, the appearance of which remains impressive. Under a brighter light there are a number of wispy hairlines in evidence but no deep scratching, no nasty scuffing, nothing obviously untoward at all. Look closely (you'll probably need to do it under a bright light in order to detect) and there is a slightly more obvious surface scuffing on side 1, but this does not adversely affect play. A strong VG+, bordering on excellent.

The front sided laminated Garrod & Lofthouse outer sleeve is in very good+ condition, with original, vibrant colouring fully intact. There is some light laminate creasing towards the outer edge but this is minimal. All of the edges are rigid with virtually no scuffing and that includes a rigid spine where all writing is perfectly readable. The reverse side flipbacks are near perfect  and the overall condition of the outer sleeve would undoubtedly be an "excellent" if it were not for a hand written name and address (in biro) just underneath the "PMC 1230" on the reverse side.

The quality of the audio is VG+, bordering on excellent. There is the occasional, very light sound of background crackle but it's very low level and does not significantly detract from the overall excellent sound quality. A really enjoyable listen. No nasty skips or pops.

Each label is excellent. The "PARLOPHONE CO..." and "SOLD IN U.K." text is clearly in evidence, indicative of first pressings. There are some very light spindle trails adjacent to the centre hole but, again, nothing to detract from the overall excellent condition of each label, with the raised "K" and "T" tax codes very apparent on the side 2 label.

Note the slightly larger and thicker font size of the label text - this size font was only apparent on 1st pressings.

The track listing is :

Side 1:

1. A HARD DAY'S NIGHT

2. I SHOULD HAVE KNOWN BETTER

3. IF I FELL

4. I'M HAPPY JUST TO DANCE WITH YOU

5. AND I LOVE HER

6. TELL ME WHY

7. CAN'T BUY ME LOVE

Side 2 :

1. ANY TIME AT ALL

2. I'LL CRY INSTEAD

3. THINGS WE SAID TODAY

4. WHEN I GET HOME

5. YOU CAN'T DO THAT

6. I'LL BE BACK

Comes complete with original, standard "EMITEX" die-cut poly lined inner sleeve, itself in excellent condition with no tears or splits and 100% functional.

Considering it's 51 year old age this classic Beatles album remains in a strong VG+ overall condition and each timeless track remains a joy to listen to.

IF THIS ITEM INTERESTS YOU THEN YOU MAY LIKE TO TAKE A LOOK AT MY OTHER 60's/70'S VINYL OFFERINGS ALSO CURRENTLY ON EBAY : SOME REAL RARITIES!

If you require any further information, including photos, then let me know and I'll do my best to oblige.

A bit about myself : I have been collecting UK vinyl for over 45 years and have amassed a huge collection covering a varied genre, but mostly of 1960's and 70's origin. I worked in IT for 22 years before doing a complete career change to teach Maths in a high school at the ripe old age of 45 - probably the best career move that I ever made. I took great joy in indulging the "kids" in my eclectic collection of 60's and 70's vinyl, even once dedicating a whole PSE session to the Genesis classic ""Foxtrot".  But now I am retired and a combination of space requirements and a need to help fund my retirement has prompted me to "rationalise" my record collection and sell many of my much loved gems.

My ebay feedback speaks for itself so rest assured that you are buying from a trusted seller, and in the very unlikely event that you are unhappy with your purchase just e-mail me and I'll sort out the problem. I offer a "no questions asked" refund policy

On the subject of postage, I take great care in the packaging of all items, using a proper vinyl cardboard mailer along with at least two cardboard stiffeners. I take care in removing the record from the outer sleeve and properly protecting it in a separate white inner sleeve in order to prevent outer sleeve damage in transit, and for items that sell for over £40 to non-UK bidders I insist upon postal insurance so please wait for an invoice before paying. I do NOT profiteer from postage costs. I DO take great care in minimising all risk thereby ensuring, as far as possible, that your purchase reaches it's destination in exactly the same condition as when I post it. Richard
