Too Old To Rock 'n' Roll, Too Young To Die! - The TV Special Edition features a previously unreleased re-recorded version of the album for a 1976 UK TV special, re- recording done 26 and 27 march 1976 in Morgan Studios London
Why they had to re-record:
London Weekend TV planned a series of summer pop-rock specials, The shows were planned to feature the likes of The Electric Light Orchestra, The Hollies, Charles Aznavour and Lynsey De Paul, with the series to be kicked off with Jethro Tull.
Explained by Ian Anderson: " To have done the TV show as a live perfance would have been horrenously difficult in terms of concentrating on performing to cameras and everything else, so playing live was out of question. That meant miming - but because of Musicians' Union rules we couldn't just mime to the original album tracks, we had to re-record them."
* An extensive 24 page booklet including an essay by Martin Webb on the preparation and recording of the album in Brussels and Monte Carlo, the aborted stage musical, the London Weekend TV special and the 1976 tours. The booklet also contains a track by track annotation by Ian Anderson, lyrics, a feature on Ian Anderson and his motorbikes, Dave Gibbons on drawing the LP's cartoon inner spread and 'From to Tullman' - The Musical Life of John Glascock, unseen photos and lots more.
