HISTORIC EDISON DIAMOND DISC

51609 --- BOTH SIDES SUNG BY EARLY COUNTRY STAR VERNON DALHART

ONE SIDE IS "THE JOHN T. SCOPES MONKEY TRIAL"  WHICH WAS THE TRAIL OF THE CENTURY.  IT INVOLVED ATTORNEYS  CLARENCE DARROW & WM JENNINGS BRYANT AND WAS MADE INTO THE FAMOUS FILM WITH SPENCER TRACY --- "INHERIT THE WIND".   THE REASON THE TRIAL WAS CALLED THE "MONKEY" TRAIL WAS THAT THE SUBJECT OF THE TRAIL WAS DARWIN'S "THEORY OF EVOLUTION".   POOR MR. SCOPES WAS THE TEACHER WHO TRIED TO TEACH THE THEORY TO HIS STUDENTS UNTIL THE LOCAL FOLKS TWISTED HIS TEACHINGS INTO "MAN CAME FROM A MONEY".  THAT DIDN'T PLAY TOO WELL IN THE BIBLE BELT.

THE OTHER SIDE IS A DITTY ABOUT "THE DEATH OF FLOYD COLLINS" .... AN EVIL SOUL WHO BLACKENED THE DAYS OF THE DEPRESSION.

WE HAVE TWO COPIES OF THIS DISC.  THE DISC ON THE RIGHT IS TO BE THE FIRST SOLD AND SHIPPED.   CONDITION IS AN M+.   THE SECOND COPY IS THE ONE ON THE LEFT.  THE LABEL SHOWS A BIT OF WEAR ON THE "SCOPES" SIDE BUT THE SURFACE IS ALSO AN M+.

BOTH DISCS ARE AVAILABLE AT THE PRESENT TIME.

PLEASE READ OUR RATING CHART.  WE USE THE OLD GOLDMINE SYSTEM WHERE AN "M" DOES NOT MEAN MINT.

WE USE THE GOLDMINE GRADING SCALE

N --- VERY CLOSE TO PERFECT.

M --- LOOKS LIKE IT JUST CAME OUT OF THE STORE, MAY HAVE BEEN PLAYED A FEW TIMES,  BUT HAS A FEW TICKS THAT KEEP IT FROM PERFECT

E --- EXCELLENT BUT NOT MINT.  SHOWS A FEW FLAWS.

VG ( very good )  --- SHOWS FLAWS.  HAS SURFACE WEAR AND SOME SURFACE NOISE SHOULD BE EXPECTED.  NO NASTY SCRATCHES, NEEDLE DROPS, RIM CHIPS, OR OTHER MAJOR PROBLEMS.

GOOD ---  ACTUALLY, A FAIRLY USED RECORD THAT IS NEARING THE END OF ITS USEFUL LIFE.

FAIR or GOOD --- NOT MUCH OF EITHER.  BUY IT UNTIL YOU CAN FIND A BETTER COPY.

"+'S"  & "-'S" --- TAKE IT UP OR DOWN A HALF STEP.

As you can see this is pretty subjective stuff.  We try to be strict graders.
