THE KINKS - The KINKS

An impressive, increasingly rare and sought after copy of this 1964 UK 1st press pop/beat classic on the PYE red label, MONO NPL 18096

 Matrix Numbers :

Side 1    NN 1096 - A2T with stampers "0", "KT" and "1" at  6.30, 9.30, and 12.30 o'clock respectively

Side 2   NN 1096 - A2T with stampers "N", "KT" and "1" at  9, 10, and 3 o'clock respectively

The appearance of this 1st press heavy duty vinyl is excellent. Gorgeous jet black lacquered sheen, completely flat and an impressive gleaming appearance. There are a number (more than a few but not many) wispy hairlines and surface/paper scuffs on each side but mostly only detectable under a bright light. There are just a few small scuff marks which are visible in normal daylight when the vinyl is held at the right angle. There is also a single 6cm light score mark on track 1 side 2, which is only detectable under a bright light but does result in fifteen mild clicks on this track. I would therefore rate the overall condition of the vinyl as VG+.

The labels are VG+. The only blemishes are some light (but visible) spindle trails adjacent to the centre hole on each side, some minor wear immediately adjacent to the centre hole circumferences, and a very small scuff on the side 2 label on the letter "E" of "PYE".

The front-side laminated and flip back outer sleeve is excellent. No scuffing or rubbing on the edges and each corner remains a well defined right angle with barely any scuffing at all. The spine is solid with no creasing and all writing remains perfectly legible. On the front side if you hold the sleeve at the right angle and in a bright light you can just make out some very faint laminate bubbling towards the bottom edge but really this is negligible. The front side colouring remains clear and vibrant. The reverse side flip backs are excellent, and all text on the matt reverse side is unblemished with no unwanted writing or doodles. There are a few very light nicks on the front side opening edge but no fraying! All of these blemishes are very minor...you won't find many sleeves of this iconic 1964 LP in better condition than this.

Finally, the quality of the audio is an overall VG+. Great tone and clarity throughout even at higher volume and tone. There is some occasional and very light background crackle/static ("crackle" is too strong a term) and the occasional light click, but none of this is intrusive to the overall excellent audio quality. The exception to this, as already mentioned above, are the 15 light clicks on track 1 of side 2 - noticeable but not too intrusive. Overall a great listen, especially considering the 53 year antiquity of this first pressing.

2. So Mystifying

3. just Can't Go To Sleep

In summary a true EXCELLENT copy of this scarce and highly sought after 1957 UK rock 'n' roll 1st press classic - there can't be many copies of this same press record that are in better condition.

If you require any further information, including photos, then let me know and I'll do my best to oblige.

If this record interests you then take a look at my other 60's & 70's classic vinyl listings.

bit about myself : I have been collecting vinyl for more than 48 years and have amassed a huge collection covering a varied genre, but mostly of 1960's and 70's origin. Most of my records were originally bought by myself for my own collection, but over the years I have embellished my collection by buying records from a variety of sources : friends/acquaintances, car boots, auctions, and even through putting up a "vinyl wanted" notice in my wife's shop! I never intended selling any of my records but now I am retired and a combination of space requirements (caused partly by duplication) and a need to help fund my retirement has prompted me to "rationalise" my record collection and sell many of my much loved gems.

My ebay feedback speaks for itself so rest assured that you are buying from a trusted seller and in the very unlikely event that you are unhappy with your purchase just e-mail me and I'll sort out the problem. I offer a "no quibble" refund policy

On the subject of postage, I take great care in the packaging of all items, using a proper vinyl cardboard mailer along with at least two cardboard stiffeners. I take great care in separating the record from the outer sleeve in order to help prevent sleeve damage in transit and I always insert the vinyl, outer sleeve and inner into a clear plastic sleeve, thus adding further protection.

For this item postage & packaging will be Royal Mail 1st class  : UK £4.00, continental Europe £7, and Rest of the World £11.

NOTE that for items selling for more than £40 to non-UK bidders I insist upon tracked and signed for postage which incurs a further £2-6 P&P costs, dependent upon location so, please, do not pay until I have invoiced you!!

I do discount post & packaging costs for multiple purchases. I do NOT profit from postage.

Good luck with your bidding! Richard
