A fascinating artist showing strong Delta roots in his singing and playing. He may well have known people like Charley Patton in his youth. These cuts are from 1941. He went on to make one more fine session for Decca in 1951 and then nothing more. A pity. Influenced John Lee Hooker in particular -'Crawling King Snake' being an obvious example. 'Stamp' refers to welfare stamps -a theme covered by many artists over the years.
