THE THIRD PRESSING WAS YET ANOTHER MISTAKE BY THE PRINTERS/PUBLISHERS. THE FIRST TWO PRESSES WERE OF COURSE ON THE GOLD AND BLACK LABEL, AND THE VERY 1ST NEW PRESSING ON THE YELLOW AND BLACK LABEL WAS ALSO SHORT LIVED DUE TO MISTAKES. FIRSTLY IT HAD AN EXTRA 33 1/3RD NEXT TO THE MATRIX NUMBER AT 9 O'CLOCK ON THE LABEL, THAT WAS ELIMINATED ALMOST AS SOON AS IT WAS SPOTTED AND THIS ISSUE WITHOUT THE SMALL 33 1/3RD WAS PRINTED. A SHORT TIME LATER IT WAS DECIDED THAT THE LABEL NEEDED EXTRA INFORMATION I.E 'RECORDING FIRST PUBLISHED IN 1963'. THAT FINAL LABEL FROM 1963 BECAME THE 'COMMON' LABEL WHICH 99% OF ALL 1963 BEATLES PLEASE PLEASE ME LP'S HAVE. SO THE LABELS WITHOUT THIS EXTRA INFORMATION ARE IN SOME CAMPS CONSIDERED ACTUALLY RARER THAN THE GOLD AND BLACK LABELS.

THE GOLD AND BLACK SLEEVES COULD BE IDENTIFIED VERY QUICKLY. FIRSTLY THEY WERE PRINTED BY THE E.J DAY GROUP AND NOT GARROD AND LOFTHOUSE, AND SECONDLY THE NAME OF THE PHOTOGRAHPER 'ANGUS McBEAN' WAS PRINTED IN THE BOTTOM RIGHT CORNER OF THE FRONT OF THE SLEEVE BUT THE TEXT STARTED DIRECTLY BELOW THE FINAL LETTER 'S' IN THE WORD SONGS IN BLUE TEXT. ALL OTHER PLEASE PLEASE ME SLEEVES HAVE THE MCBEAN TEXT STARTING UNDER THE N AND G OF THE WORD SONGS

SO WHAT WE HAVE HERE IS A RARE 3RD PRESS LABEL WITHOUT THE RECORDING FIRST PUBLISHED AND WITHOUT THE EXTRA 33 1/3

THE RECORDS

THE LABELS

THE YELLOW AND BLACK LABELS ARE IN SUPERB CONDITION. NO STAINS OR HANDLING MARKS. THE COLOUR STRETCHES FULLY INTO THE UNWORN SPINDLE HOLE. THE SILVER TYPEFACE AND LOGOS ARE ALL UNRUBBED AND PERFECTLY LEGIBLE. IT IS DIFFICULT TO ACCURATELY SAY HOW MANY SPIDER LINES THERE ARE AROUND THE SPINDLE HOLE, BECAUSE EVEN USING A MAGNIFYING GLASS I CAN ONLY SEE VERY FAINT COMPACT LINES. IT HAS CLEARLY HAD SOME PLAY BUT HOW MUCH I AM NOT SURE IN THIS CASE. CERTAINLY NOT ENOUGH TO DAMAGE OR WEAR THE GROOVES

THE VINYL

THIS VINYL GLEAMS LIKE NEW, AND HAS LOST NONE OF ITS ORIGINAL LUSTRE. IN DAYLIGHT THE VINYL LOOKS FLAWLESS AND ONLY UNDER INTENSE ILLIUMINATION ARE THERE SIGNS OF WEAR. THERE ARE NUMEROUS VERY FINE WISPY SURFACE HAIRLINES, AND A FEW ANGEL HAIRLINE  HANDLING LINES. IT S WORTH POINTING OUT THAT 95% OF THESE LINES ARE SURFACE ONLY

PLAYING THE RECORD

I BELIEVE THAT IF YOU ARE GOING TO SPEND YOUR MONEY ON A FANTASTIC COLLECTIBLE VINYL, THAT YOU SHOULD BE GIVEN THE OPPORTUNITY TO HEAR WHAT YOU ARE BUYING. I HAVE THEREFORE INVESTED IN THE SOFTWARE THAT ALLOWS YOU TO DO JUST THAT.

I HAVE RECORDED THE ENTIRE ALBUM FROM START TO FINISH AS I NOW DO WITH ALL MY LISTINGS, AND I AM CONVINCED THAT BIDDERS WOULD LOVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO BE ABLE TO HEAR THE RECORD BEFORE LAYING ANY BID. THIS IS A SERVICE I AM DELIGHTED TO BE ABLE TO OFFER MY CUSTOMERS

PLEASE TAKE THE TIME TO LISTEN TO THIS SUPERB RECORDING BEFORE YOU MAKE YOUR BID, AS I WANT YOU TO BE HAPPY TO PLACE THIS IN YOUR COLLECTION. I HAVE RECORDED THIS AS IT WAS INTENDED TO BE HEARD ...IN MONO

THE FIRST THING TO MENTION IS THAT THE VINYL HAS ABSOLUTELY NO DISTORTION. MANY OF THESE EARLY BEATLES ALBUMS WERE PLAYED ON SYSTEMS THAT HAD A WORN OR HEAVY STYLUS, RESULTING IN GROOVE WEAR AND THUS A DISTORTION TO THE SOUND WHEN PLAYING. AT ITS WORST YOU ALSO GET A HISS IN ADDITION TO POOR QUALITY. I AM DELIGHTED TO SAY THAT THIS RECORDING IS CLEAR AND LOUD

THE VINYL PLAYS WITHOUT ANY HEAVY BACKGROUND CRACKLE, OR LOUD CLICKS . NO STICKS OR JUMPS AT ALL EITHER

SITTING VERY CLOSE TO THE SPEAKERS AS I DO WHEN TYPING THIS OUT I WAS ABLE TO DETECT JUST A LITTLE STATIC LIKE BACKGROUND IN SOME OF THE LINKING GROOVES.AND SOME OF THE MOST SILENT PASSAGES. THIS IS SO LIGHT THAT MOVING TO NORMAL LISTENING DISTANCE ELIMINATED IT

I HEARD NO MORE THAN A FEW RANDOM LIGHT DUST POPS/TICS, CERTAINLY NO WHERE NEAR ENOUGH TO SPOIL THE REPRODUCTION, PLUS THREE ROTATIONAL ONES IN THE LINKING GROOVE TO THE 6TH TRACK ON SIDE TWO

I BELIEVE THIS ALBUM PLAYS TO AN EXCELLENT GRADE

DON'T TAKE MY WORD FOR IT THOUGH, HAVE A GOOD LISTEN AND JUDGE IT AGAINST YOUR PERSONAL STANDARDS BEFORE BIDDING

THE SLEEVE

LAMINATED FRONT SURFACE, AND UN-LAMINATED REAR SURFACE FROM THE E.J DAY CO

I HAVE MENTIONED ABOVE EXACTLY THE FINE DETAIL AROUND THIS BEING THE EARLIEST SLEEVE FOR THIS ALBUM

THE FRONT STILL HAS A NICE SHEEN TO THE LAMINATE

THE FOUR CORNERS ARE LIGHTLY RUBBED, AND THE TOP TWO A LITTLE MORE THAN THE BOTTOM TWO. THERE IS A SMALL CREASE LINE RUNNING ACROSS THE TOP LEFT CORNER TIP, AND A LONGER ONE ACROSS THE BOTTOM LEFT CORNER

THERE ARE NINE SMALL LAMINATE LINES AGAINST THE SPINE. FOUR ALONG THE TOP EDGE, AND TWELVE ON THE BOTTOM EDGE, PLUS FIVE ON THE OPENING EDGE

THE TOP EDGE HAS WEAR TO BOTH CORNER TIPS AND  SOME CRACKS ON THE LAMINATE IN THE MIDDLE WHICH HAVE BROWNED ON THE ACTUAL CRACKS. THE BOTTOM EDGE HAS AN INCH OD MISSING POP PAPER IN THE MIDDLE, BUT THE CORNER TIPS ON THIS EDGE ARE BOTH IN UNMOLESTED CONDITION

THE SPINE HAS A SMALL CHIP IN THE WORD 'BEATLES', AND A COUPLE MORE ON THE BOTTOM LEADING EDGE

THE OPENING EDGE HAS VERY LIGHTLY BURRED

THE REAR SURFACE HAS SOME DAMAGE TO THE BOTTOM FLIPBACK, AND A LITTLE ON THE TWO CORNERS OF THE TOP FLIPBACK

THE POROUS WHITE SURFACE HAS A LITTLE STATING IN THE BOTTOM SECTION, AND SOME MILD FOXING

THE ORIGINAL POLY LINED EMITEX INNER SLEEVE IS IN SPLIT FREE, BUT HAS SOME CORNER CREASES

THE SLEEVE GRADES AROUND THE VG MARK

GOOD LUCK WITH YOUR BID IF YOU CHOSE TO GO FOR IT
