Brian Peter George St John le Baptiste de la Salle Eno, (; born Brian Peter George Eno; 15 May 1948) is an English musician, composer, record producer, singer, writer, and visual artist. He is best known for his pioneering work in and contributions to , , , and . A self-described "non-musician", Eno has helped to introduce a variety of unique conceptual approaches and recording techniques into contemporary music, advocating a methodology of "theory over practice" throughout his career. He has been described as one of 's most influential and innovative figures.
Born in , Eno studied and at the art school at Ipswich Civic College in the mid 1960s and then at . He joined group as player in 1971. After recording two albums with the band, he departed in 1973 to record a number of solo albums, coining the term "ambient music" to describe his work on releases such as (1975), (1975), and (1978). Meanwhile, he took part in frequent collaborations with artists such as , , , on his "", and , as well as beginning a parallel career as a , which included work on albums by and , the '' compilation (1978), and recordings by artists including , , , and Budd amongst others.
Since then, Eno has continued to record solo albums whilst also collaborating with and producing other artists, including , , , , , , and . Dating back to his time as a student, he has also worked in other media, including and his mid-70s co-development of , a deck of cards featuring cryptic aphorisms intended to spur . From the 1970s onwards, Eno's installations have included the sails of the in 2009 and the at in 2016. An advocate of a range of humanitarian causes, Eno writes on a variety of subjects and is a founder member of the .
The Winkies were an English group. The group primarily consisted of Philip Rambow, Michael Desmarais, Guy Humphreys, and Brian Turrington.
Biography[]
The Winkies were formed by -born Philip Rambow with former guitarist Guy Humphreys, and the rhythm section of Brian Turrington (bass) and Mike Desmarais (drums). Their music and stage presence were a combination of the sound and visuals of clothing.
The Winkies caught the attention of while he was finishing his debut solo album, . Eno took The Winkies as his backing band in February 1974, on his first and only solo tour. The outing ended after the sixth date of the schedule in , after which Eno was rushed to the hospital suffering from a . In March 1974 the show broadcast four songs from the 19 February 1974 performance - "The Paw Paw Negro Blowtorch", a medley of "Totalled" plus "" and a of "".
In 1979, The Impossible Recordworks (IMP 1-30) unofficially released the album Floating In Sequence, which contained six songs from the Winkies/Eno February 1974 tour. In 1999, ENO-802 (QCS-1441) unofficially released the limited edition vinyl LP, Brian Peter George St John Le Baptiste De La Salle ENO* – Music For Fans Vol. 2 of the same material. On 23 February 1999, German Records World Productions (LUBEK 001) unofficially released Dali's Car (EAN 4016618288880), containing the same six songs from the Winkies/Eno 1974 tour.

After touring with Eno, the band signed with and recorded various tracks with of . Guests on these recordings included Chick Churchill and Eno. This intended album was never completed, and the Winkies began work on another set, with producing. Their debut album, The Winkies was released in 1975.
Shortly after the release of this album, the Winkies disbanded.
