In November 2013, singer-songwriter Gregory Alan Isakov performed with theColorado Symphony, a moment he says was a “momentous opportunity.” He’s continued to make the most of that opportunity by recording an album of his old compositions appropriately titled “Gregory Alan Isakov With the Colorado Symphony,” due out June 10.

A new song, “Liars,” starts off the 11-song LP and premieres below on Speakeasy today.

“Liars” was written by Austin, Texas-based songwriter Ron Scott and finds Isakov’s version starting off in a dark, acoustic space, where he sings lines like “I sold all my baseball cards to buy me summer clothes, that’s how it goes” and “clouds ‘round here talk, man I have been listening.” The five-minute track features orchestral flourishes throughout, but starts to swell into something grander at around the three-minute mark.

“Gregory Alan Isakov With the Colorado Symphony” follows his 2013 album, “The Weatherman.” He says revisiting his old material in this context breathes new life into songs he’s had for years. “It gives the songs a huge, dynamic sense of space, similar to how small yet connected we can feel when we are alone beneath a huge starry sky.”

Isakov is also branching out from the Colorado Symphony, with several shows lined up over the summer featuring different orchestras, including the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra on June 17, the Philadelphia Youth Orchestra on June 19, and the National Symphony Orchestra in Washington D.C. on June 25. He’ll also perform club dates with the Ghost Orchestra, a collection of Colorado-based brass and string players.
