Out of the
BUMBLIES came the Merseybeat group the CRYIN’ SHAMES and a hit record PLEASE
STAY which reached #26 in the UK charts in March 1966. This was the group that
recorded the tracks on side two for French TV a couple of months later, but
broke up in the summer of the same year. Paul and Ritchie got a new group
together and recorded just one single, SEPTEMBER IN THE RAIN for Decca as PAUL
& RITCHIE & THE CRYIN’ SHAMES. This lineup went into the BBC
studios in September 1966 to cut the tracks on Side One. And here they are –
for the first time in fifty years!
