Tom Petty's 12th studio album - his 10th with the Heartbreakers - was issued on 16th April 1999; the record reached number 10 on the Billboard 200, aided by singles 'Free Girl Now,' 'Swingin' and 'Room at the Top,' which hit numbers 5, 17 and 19 respectively on the Mainstream Rock Tracks chart. Echo, as the album was titled, was the band's last collection for which Rick Rubin was producer. Petty and his Heartbreakers were already out on the road at the time of the album's release, indeed The Echo Tour had begun on 7th March at The Fillmore in San Francisco, where they had played 7 nights, before moving to the East coast for another 3 shows at New York's Irvine Plaza. From there it was a hop, skip and jump across the Atlantic Ocean for a couple of shows in London, following which their only performance of the tour in continental Europe was played on 24th April at The Docks in Hamburg. One of the tour's finest shows, this remarkable German concert was recorded, and this double VINYL RECORD features this extraordinary performance. Released here for the first time, the group rip through an enticing set-list to include cuts from the new record alongside many choice TP classics and, as always, many unique covers.
