FAIRFIELD PARLOUR - FROM HOME TO HOME

A wonderfully impressive condition copy of this incredibly rare (especially in as brilliant condition as this) and highly sought after 1970 UK very 1st press folk-rock rarity (reputedly less than 500 of this first pressing exist) on the coveted UK large Vertigo swirl label, 6360 001

The dead wax matrix numbers are :

Side 1   6360001  1Y//1  with stampers "1 1 2" at 2 o'clock

Side 2   6360001  2Y//1  with stampers "1 1 1" at 9.30 o'clock

The appearance and overall condition of the flat vinyl is excellent plus (EX+). Both sides exude a beautiful jet black sheen and gleam, and in normal daylight come across as completely unmarked. It is only with very close scrutiny under a very bright light that just a few wispiest of wispy hairlines and the occasional extremely faint paper scuff mark come into view, but these are so faint and superficial that they amount to little more than what you would expect from a brand new record. I am sure that some would grade the condition of this vinyl as "near mint" but I rarely use this term myself and feel that "excellent plus" is sufficient to convey the message that the condition of the vinyl is truly wonderful...amazing for what is now a 50 year old antiquity! Clearly, this record has been very sparingly played.

The labels are excellent plus (EX+). Iconic, beautiful condition labels with the coveted Vertigo swirl still perfectly intact on each label and the black text on the smooth textured white background on Side B remaining pristine. Under a bright light I can just make out a couple of very, very light spindle trails adjacent to the centre hole on each label. But apart from that, perfect!

The non-laminated, heavily textured gatefold sleeve is again excellent plus (EX+). All Vertigo swirl outer sleeves are iconic and sought after but the UK first pressing variant of this particular sleeve is not only one of the most desirable but also one of the most fragile and prone to wear and tear - hence so very few remain in excellent condition or better. Well, this one is better than excellent...excellent plus! Beautifully heavily textured back and front sides with all photography, art work, and colours superbly intact - rich, vibrant and perfect definition still. All edges remain firm, including the rigid spine where all text remains perfectly intact, and the opening edges are similarly rigid with no fraying or feathering. Not quite perfect, however - there is just a little scuffing on each of the corners, a few tiny "nicks" on the bottom front edge, and 1.5cm of mild scuffing on the top back edge next to the opening side corner. The inside of the gate fold is beautiful - apart from a very small "nick" in the middle of the right side and another small "nick" in the bottom corner of the left side, and just some faintest of faint very light intermittent storage wear towards the bottom edge (barely noticeable and most would not even mention it), the condition is perfect.

Finally, the quality of the audio is again excellent plus (EX+). Outstanding in fact - lovely tone, wonderful clarity even at higher volume and higher frequency. No blemishes at all bar the very occasional nano-second of static...no more than you would expect with a new record. No clicks, (I did come across x2 mild clicks on side 2 but a light clean/wipe with a soft damp cloth cured this immediately - obviously a speck of dust in the grooves through decades of storage!). Every track makes for a great listen with "Aries" and ..."Emily" being real standouts.

In summary a truly brilliant condition copy of this very rare and highly sought after 1970 UK very 1st press large Vertigo swirl folk/prog/rock rarity - a worthy centrepiece of any serious vinyl collection and only continuing to gain in value.

bit about myself : I have been collecting vinyl for more than 50 years and have amassed a huge collection covering a varied genre, but mostly of 1960's and 70's origin. Most of my records were originally bought by myself for my own collection, but during the past 30 years I have embellished my collection by buying records from a variety of sources : friends/acquaintances, car boot sales, auctions, and even through putting up a "vinyl wanted" notice in my wife's shop! I am now retired and take great delight in being able to spend more time scouring the country and attending boot sales and auctions in the hope of unearthing more vinyl gems...I am 64 years of age now and am still discovering bands and music of the 60's and 70's that I have never come across before. Wonderful! Richard

My ebay feedback speaks for itself so rest assured that you are buying from a trusted seller and in the very unlikely event that you are unhappy with your purchase just e-mail me and I'll sort out the problem. I offer a "no quibble" refund policy

On the subject of postage, I take great care in the packaging of all items, using a proper vinyl thick cardboard "crucifix" style mailer along with at least two thick cardboard stiffeners. I take great care in separating the record from the outer sleeve in order to help prevent sleeve damage in transit and I always insert the vinyl, outer sleeve and inner into a clear plastic sleeve, thus adding further protection.

For this item postage & packaging will be UK £6, Royal Mail special delivery; continental Europe £11 and Rest of the World £15, Royal Mail 1st class international Airmail, tracked and signed for.

I DO discount post & packaging costs for multiple purchases. I do NOT profit from postage.

Good luck with your bidding!

NOTE : My vinyl descriptions comply with the official Record Collector vinyl grading guidelines :

Mint

The records itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. The cover and any extra items, such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in perfect condition. Records advertised as Sealed or Unplayed should be Mint.

Excellent

The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and /or creasing.

Very Good

The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.

Good

The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discolouration, etc.

Fair

The record is still just playable but has not been cared for properly and displays considerable surface noise; it may even jump. The cover and contents are torn, stained and/or defaced

Poor

The record will not play properly due to scratches, bad surface noise, etc. The cover and contents are badly damaged or partly missing.

Bad

The record is unplayable or might even be broken, and is only of use as a collection-filler
