THE BEATLES - REVOLVER

A nice condition copy of this increasingly rare and sought after 1966 UK early press Beatles classic, on the yellow/black Parlophone record label, MONO, PMC 7009

The dead wax matrix numbers are :

Side 1    XEX 605 - 2  with stampers "5" and "G R L" at 10 and 4 o'clock respectively

Side 2   XEX 606 - 3  with stampers "1" and "G 1.1 1.1" (difficult to make out) at 9.30 and 3.30 o'clock respectively

In normal daylight the appearance of the vinyl is excellent (EX). Glossy, completely flat and nicely heavy vinyl with jet black lacquering and still an impressive sheen. Closer inspection under a bright light reveals some wispy hairlines on each side and and two light (surface only) scuff marks on side 1 (see photo for the largest of these scuff marks - 6cm - the other being 4cm and same thickness of just a few millimetres), but all of these blemishes appears to be minor, non-feelable, and nothing obviously below the surface. The appearance and actual condition of the vinyl suggests that it has been underplayed and the MONO audio reproduction, though not perfect (see below) tends to support this. The overall appearance and condition of the vinyl is a solid very good (to be precise, side 1 is very good and side 2 is very good plus)

The labels are excellent (EX). Impressive labels with all text, all colouring, and the iconic yellow & black Parlophone logo with silver writing upon the smooth textured black background all remaining in excellent condition with a few very faint spindle trails on each label. Note the raised "K" and "T" tax codes on the side 2 label, along with "THE GRAMOPHONE..." and "SOLD IN THE U.K."..." texts which are each symptomatic of early UK pressings.

The condition of the front-side laminated Garrod & Lofthouse flipback outer sleeve is again a solid very good (VG). All edges remain firm with no scuffing, teach corner remains a nicely defined right angle with minimal rubbing, and the spine is excellent with all text perfectly intact. The opening edges are firm with no fraying or feathering. On the front side there is a single horizontal 1.5cm laminate crease perpendicular and adjacent to the spine which does not impinge upon the spine itself. There is a horizontal light score line next to the bottom edge and just a couple of very light age discolouration spots on the front side, and on the reverse side there is some light discolouration on the flipbacks which are otherwise in great shape. Also on the reverse side there is a small area of wear/abrasion on the left side towards the opening edge. There are no doodles or unwanted writing anywhere and overall the front side photography and artwork and reverse side text and photograph all remain in impressive and highly presentable condition.

Finally, the quality of the audio is very good (VG). There is great tone and clarity with no skips, repeats or sticks. Upon playback 1 I noticed x5 very light clicks on "I'm Only Sleeping" but apart from that I noticed no clicking at all, and there is also some occasional and very low level background crackle during some of the interludes and a few of the quieter moments ("Here, There and Everywhere" for example) but I stress that none of this is sufficiently intrusive to spoil the overall mono sound quality with every track making for a great listen on this great album. Not perfect, but at least VG overall and for much of the album the sound quality is excellent.

The tracks are :

Side A :

1. TAXMAN

2. ELEANOR RIGBY

3. I'M ONLY SLEEPING

4. LOVE YOU TO

5. HERE, THERE AND EVERYWHERE

6. YELLOW SUBMARINE

7. SHE SAID SHE SAID

Side B :

1. GOOD DAY SUNSHINE

2. AND YOUR BIRD CAN SING

3. FOR NO ONE

4. DR. ROBERT ("DOCTOR ROBERT" text on the label)

5. I WANT TO TELL YOU

6. GOT TO GET YOU INTO MY LIFE

7. TOMORROW NEVER KNOWS

Comes with original plain white "PATENT No..." and "MADE IN GREAT BRITAIN" horizontal text, with no tears or splits, no fraying and no unwanted writing and remaining 100% functional. Note that I always post the vinyl in a new plain white inner sleeve in order to protect the original.

In summary a nice condition and very presentable copy of this increasingly hard to find and sought after 1966 early UK press Beatles classic - a worthy addition to any serious vinyl collection and only continuing to increase in value.

If you require any further information, including photos, then let me know and I'll do my best to oblige.

If this record interests you then take a look at my other 60's & 70's classic vinyl listings.

bit about myself : I have been collecting vinyl for more than 49 years and have amassed a huge collection covering a varied genre, but mostly of 1960's and 70's origin. Most of my records were originally bought by myself for my own collection, but during the past 30 years I have embellished my collection by buying records from a variety of sources : friends/acquaintances, car boot sales, auctions, and even through putting up a "vinyl wanted" notice in my wife's shop! I am now retired and take great delight in being able to spend more time scouring the country and attending boot sales and auctions in the hope of unearthing more vinyl gems...I am 64 years of age now and am still discovering bands and music of the 60's and 70's that I have never come across before. Wonderful! Richard

My ebay feedback speaks for itself so rest assured that you are buying from a trusted seller and in the very unlikely event that you are unhappy with your purchase just e-mail me and I'll sort out the problem. I offer a "no quibble" refund policy

On the subject of postage, I take great care in the packaging of all items, using a proper vinyl thick cardboard "crucifix" style mailer along with at least two thick cardboard stiffeners. I take great care in separating the record from the outer sleeve in order to help prevent sleeve damage in transit and I always insert the vinyl, outer sleeve and inner into a clear plastic sleeve, thus adding further protection.

For this item postage & packaging will be UK £3 signed for, Royal Mail 1st class; continental Europe £10 and Rest of the World £14, Royal Mail 1st class international Airmail, tracked and signed for.

I DO discount post & packaging costs for multiple purchases. I do NOT profit from postage.

Good luck with your bidding!

NOTE : My vinyl descriptions comply with the official Record Collector vinyl grading guidelines :

Mint

The records itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. The cover and any extra items, such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in perfect condition. Records advertised as Sealed or Unplayed should be Mint.

Excellent

The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and /or creasing.

Very Good

The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.

Good

The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discolouration, etc.

Fair

The record is still just playable but has not been cared for properly and displays considerable surface noise; it may even jump. The cover and contents are torn, stained and/or defaced

Poor

The record will not play properly due to scratches, bad surface noise, etc. The cover and contents are badly damaged or partly missing.

Bad

The record is unplayable or might even be broken, and is only of use as a collection-filler
