Funk Soul 45: JODY & The INDIVIDUALS on MUS-I-COL OHIO KILLER RARE, FIRST RAP!!!. Condition is Used. Shipped with USPS Media Mail.
One of the rarest records you will ever find in this condition. I'm listing it as used but it is definitely a brand new stock copy, from here in Springfield, OH where it originated. I played once to test it. I have found the only few known remaining new stock copies. From what I have seen in rarity discussions on-line a number of the records had slight lip warps. This one does, as well as the few I found, but the record plays great. I believe it might have been a pressing plant issue. In 1974 a guy from Springfield Ohio named Joe "Jody" Parsley went to a recording studio in Columbus and recorded these two songs. He released the record under the name "Jody and the Individuals." They recorded two tracks: "Hooked" and "Soul Streak." They pressed a thousand copies.
Jody and the Individuals were ahead of their time. Rappers were a thing of the future so Joe's rapping on the track "Soul Streak" is arguably the first rap. If you do a Google search for "joe parsley rapper spfld ohio" you'll find a newspaper article and many other post about the making of this record and the artist that appeared in the Springfield (Ohio) News-Sun in 2012.
Joe died in 2015 but his legacy as the first rapper will be arguable. Read the articles online.
