Notes:

This record came from a record store in Allentown, Pennsylvania called "Phantasmagoria" which went out of business in 1978. I purchased most of their unsold inventory several years later when I owned "Music Madness" - a new & used record store in Catasauqua.

Since this was part of Phantasmagoria's inventory when they closed in 1978, it cannot be any newer than a 1978 pressing. Being a sealed LP, I cannot tell specifically what pressing it is prior to 1978. In come cases, hype stickers might help to determine if it is a first pressing, but I cannot be any more specific.

Phantasmagoria used round colored stickers to indicate the price of the albums. They had a sign on the wall with the color sticker combinations for the customers to use so they knew the price of the albums. Most of the albums still have these stickers on them, and in some rare cases, the stickers are written on. Some of the records have prices on them. This is the price you would have paid for the record in 1978 if you would have bought it at Phantasmagoria. Please don't confuse these prices with their current value.

Two stickers on the shrink wrap on the front of the record, and a bonus 7" single inside the shrink wrap on the back of the album - as shown in the photos below.

Please contact me if you have any difficulty viewing the photos.

Biography

Biography by Joseph Stevenson, All Music Guide

Wendy Carlos was the first composer to have a hit electronic music recording, and remains an important name in the field of music for synthesizer. Upon graduation, Carlos obtained a job as a recording engineer and became one of the first customers for Robert Moog's new electronic music synthesizer, built on the principle of variable voltage controlled circuits and thus permitting a wider variety of tone colors and playing the music on a keyboard. Using the instrument, Carlos and producer Rachel Elkind recorded the album Switched-On Bach which enjoyed immense sales (into the platinum range) and favorable reviews from many critics for the clarity it brought to Bach's contrapuntal lines. Carlos followed up with another major release, The Well-Tempered Synthesizer. These releases were essentially devoted to arrangements of older music. Carlos' own music was heard in Stanley Kubrick's films A Clockwork Orange and The Shining, as well as in the innovative computer animation film Tron, which used both analog and digital synthesizers and symphony orchestra. The 1972 Carlos release Sonic Seasonings might be regarded as one of the first ambient music LPs, coming well ahead of the invention of the term "New Age." Carlos developed a passion for observing and photographing solar eclipses. Visiting the sites of eighteen of them over the decades, the artist has calculated that by the end of 1999 that effort resulted in a total of 56 minutes spent under the shadow of the moon. These lunar interests seem to have been joined with Carlos' musical activities in the release Digital Moonscapes, while an interest in world culture and alternative tunings are reflected in the striking Beauty in the Beast. In 1998 Carlos released Tales of Heaven and Hell, whose main composition revisits ideas of A Clockwork Orange. Carlos has also recently worked on restoring works whose analog masters were originally archived on tapes with a flawed binder material, with a view toward re-releasing certain recordings that have long been unavailable.

This sealed album is being sold as a collector's item and cannot be returned due to manufacturer's defects. It may be almost impossible to replace many of the sealed albums I am selling.

USA (Domestic) Shipping and pick-up If you have any special shipping requirements (extra padding, oversized boxes, etc.) you must let me know BEFORE making your payment. The free shipping I am including is based my standard packaging (new boxes, padded envelopes, etc.). If you make a request for special shipping requirements when or after making your payment, I will refund your purchase and relist the item(s). You can bid on them again and then I will send you a revised invoice. I will do my best to accommodate any request as long as you are willing to pay accordingly.

I am no longer offering media mail until the election and virus issues have been resolved. The USPS is earning a bad reputation for damaging packages and/or very slow delivery times for media mail.

I am currently including FREE First Class shipping with insurance for all USA buyers. I want your package to be delivered as rapidly as possible, and in the same condition as I sent it.

In some cases, as a bonus, I am upgrading the FREE First Class postage to FREE Priority Mail. If you have an issue that you don't want your package shipped by Priority Mail, please indicate that when making your payment.

If your invoice does not include free first class postage, please send a request for an updated invoice.

Your item(s) will be shipped within 2 business days after I receive your cleared payment. When possible, I try to ship the same day your payment clears.

Local pick-up is fine with me. Contact me before making your payment to setup a time and place that is convenient for the both of us. There are no postage or handling fees for pick-up.

International Shipping If you have any special shipping requirements (extra padding, oversized boxes, etc.) you must let me know BEFORE making your payment. Your shipping is based my standard packaging (new boxes, padded envelopes, etc.). If you make a request for special shipping requirements when or after making your payment, I will refund your purchase and relist the item(s). You can bid on them again and then I will send you a revised invoice. I will do my best to accommodate any request as long as you are willing to pay accordingly.

If you purchase multiple items, please wait until you've made all your purchases so I can send you an invoice with your correct postage.

The buyer is responsible for all customs regulations and fees in their own country.

If the total weight of your package is 4 pounds or more, the Post Office requires it must be shipped by International Priority Mail. This is their policy, not mine. If it helps, I can try to calculate First Class postage for multiple shipments, but it usually ends up cheaper sending everything in one box by Priority.
