You are bidding on two empty LP sleeves that were production proofs, they never had LPs in them.
THERE ARE NO LPS IN THIS AUCTION.
Nathaniel Rosen's signed numbered limited-edition 2-LP set "Orientale" was North Star Records' attempt to meet the quality standards of the legendary RCA "Soria Series" LP sets. The cover art was by Eliza Gardiner (fl. c. 1920). We went to extreme lengths to make the LP jackets beautiful, starting with the inspired Graphic Design of Janet Harris. The paper "slicks" for the LP jackets were printed on art paper, one sheet at a time, one color at a time, on a 2-color Heidelberg press (the BEST!), under direct human supervision at Location Recording Services Print Division in Southern California.
This Proof set of two covers was sent for approval, and I have kept them safe since 1991. Now it is someone else's opportunity to enjoy them. Frame them for your listening room walls!
TO RESTATE: You are bidding on two empty LP sleeves that were production proofs, they never had LPs in them, and THERE ARE NO LPS IN THIS AUCTION.
You are bidding on beautiful pieces of art and souvenirs of a legendary LP project of more than 30 years ago. Real LPs of "Orientale" go for very gratifying money, at least to the extent that the very high prices validate my artistic decisions. Before I started my own label John Marks Records, I worked as a consultant to North Star Records, and all the projects I worked on for them have amazing values on the used market.
So, bid as you please; I can provide a certificate of authenticity if you wish. But if I were the buyer I'd just frame the two jackets separately and put them in different rooms of the house.
Any questions, please ask, and please do not ignore my statements about this auction is just for LP jackets and NO LPS!
Given what the real LPs sell for ($500 and up!), my starting price for this "only one of its kind" set of jacket proofs from the collection of the original guy behind the music (me), seems very reasonable to me.
By the way, High Definition Tape Transfers is at this very moment working with the original 30 i.p.s master tapes of "Orientale," to be able to offer high-resolution downloads. Exciting!
The empty jackets will be shipped in a standard fold-up LP mailer.
