1962 first pressing...!

This is a wonderful record. During the course of its play, one gets to hear a kind old gentleman slowly drown. He is gracious enough to introduce to his young listeners the stories they will hear, and without panic informs them of his unfortunate condition.

He has written to the children a note, printed on the back cover. A very considerate man to the end...

This copy is in overall Very Good condition.

Please refer to the photos as well as these details:

• The jacket is very vibrant with light foxing in small areas of the back. It is surprisingly bright white for its age and materials. The seams of the jacket have two small areas of splitting, shown externally and with a very bright light from the inside: 2" at the top, and a smaller one on the spine. The seams are not separating, and the spine is fully legible. The bottom seam is eerily perfect. There is no ring wear, and no significant bending or creasing of the corners. The tip-on jacket's color ink has not faded nor been exposed to moisture that might have otherwise caused warping.

• The labels are clean and free of writing. There is no sticker residue. Very light spindle marks can be seen if held to the light.

• The record is stored sleeved outside of the jacket, against the cover together inside a 3-mil outer sleeve.

• The vinyl surfaces are almost perfect.

• Side 1 has the only audible flaw: at the beginning, 6 revolutions have distortion. *I do not have a deep groove cleaner, so these few seconds may be improvable.*

If I kept this record, the jacket would be a candidate for the wall for the charming presentation, colorful illustration, and absence of apparent damage.

Thank you for perusing this listing description.  It is my sincere hope that this record finds a home where dear Mr. Hitchcock can calmly drown at least once a year.  He sounds very congenial, and not as upset as I might be at 62 years old and in rising waters.  I'm no worthy judge though, and an even worse storyteller.  I can tell time and occasionally the direction of the sun.  I own these shortcomings as I do the condition of this record, and should it disappoint you beyond my ability to describe it, I will do my humble best to offer remedy for your troubles.

While I have your attention, there are two very rich and scary items that may be of interest this season, or any season in which a good fright might hit the spot. The first is another artifact of black plastic - a Disney record complete with a listening game for young people still inside its jacket: Disneyland Record 1257, "Chilling, Thrilling Sounds Of THE HAUNTED HOUSE." While it is brimming over with frightful sounds, listener needn't be witness to a drowning in order to enjoy it.

The second is a peculiar set of German folktales, or fables rather, since each has a moral... correction for the children: Der ultimative Struwwelpeter (The Ultimate Shockheaded Peter), ISBN 3-932909-99-2. This wonderful book is a 10" x 8" hardcover, so when it becomes upsetting, it can more or less be thrown as one does a frisbee. The text was written by Dr. Heinrich Hoffmann in 1845 and published in this edition by the kind people of Autorenhaus-Verlag Plinke, Berlin who opted for a bilingual version. Credited in part to one Martyn Jacques, lyricist of The Tiger Lillies (three L's, mind, or you'll be referring to an altogether different group that chose not to call themselves Beneath Mediocrity). The Tiger Lillies toured the world performing for grown-ups these stories written for children. 1845 must have been a bad crop, if Dr. Hoffmann's cautionary tales are any clue. It is a highly recommended book all the same. No one drowns, but... I won't spoil the rest. Cheers.
