SANTANA SANTANA III 180 GRAM IMPORT  DOUBLE LP SET WITH EXCLUSIVE BONUS TRACKS

180 Gram Double LP! Includes 4 Bonus Tracks Previously Not On Vinyl! !

Santana III is an album of lasts. It was the last album recorded with the original Woodstock-line up and the last to hit #1 in the Billboard charts until 1999's Supernatural. But there are also a number of important firsts on this album; Coke Escovedo joins in for the first time on percussion, as does Neal Schon (Journey) - a mere seventeen when they recorded the album - on guitar.

Santana III is seen by many as the band's commercial and creative highpoint. The band sounds darker, more raw, and more eager with the doubling up on guitar of Schon's rock'n'roll sensibilities and Santana's ecstatic high notes and soulful fills. Escovedo's and Chepito's percussion is as fast as it is furious, and the minimal production adds greatly to the timeless appeal of this album.

For this double LP 180 gram audiophile edition Music On Vinyl have added four bonus tracks that were originally recorded in the same time period as Santanta III but have never appeared on vinyl before. They add an extra drive to an already compelling album, that extra spark to the powder keg that is the explosive Santana!

"Basically, they demonstrate to what incredible transports of ecstasy one can be taken by complex, insinuating rhythms, especially when they are played against one another not only in their patterns but also in the timbres of the sounds and the ranges wherein they are played... this band, which is really a city band bringing us the hot pavement and the cool nights as well as the rumble and the roar of the city, is solidly linked back to the hill country, the savannahs and the inland plains music of Africa and Cuba and the other sources of that magic rhythmic power of which they are such compelling examples." - Rolling Stone

Supernatural is the seventeenth album by Santana, released in 1999. It went 15 times platinum in the US and won nine Grammy Awards, including Album of the Year as well as three Latin Grammy Awards including Record of the Year.

The album, conceived by Clive Davis and A&R'd by Pete Ganbarg, was a big global hit, eventually selling more than 30 million copies. It is the most successful album by Santana, hitting the number one spot in ten countries, including the United States. It is also the highest selling album of original material released by any artist who had already been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame prior to its release and second highest selling overall behind The Beatles 1.

It included the hit single "Smooth", which featured Matchbox Twenty singer Rob Thomas on vocals, and was number one on the Billboard Hot 100 for 12 weeks. The follow-up single, "Maria Maria" (which featured The Product G&B), was number one on the same chart for 10 weeks. Santana and Rob Thomas won three Grammys for their collaboration on the song "Smooth" while Santana and Everlast won another for the song "Put Your Lights On". Santana also won a Grammy for "Maria Maria". Carlos Santana became the first Hispanic to win the Record of the Year Grammy Award, while the Album of the Year award was bestowed upon Davis.

SANTANA CARAVANSERAI - TREMENDOUSLY RARE SQ-SOPN-38 JAPAN OBI MINT CONDITION PRESSING

To attempt to categorise Carlos Santana’s music is, for the prophets of rock music, rather like dancing on the edge of a volcano. While the New York Times acclaimed the band as a reincarnation of Dizzy Gillespie’s Cuban-jazz bigband from the end of the Forties, the specialist magazine Rolling Stone spoke of a »methadrine trip without visions«. Organ-player Gregg Rolie offered a very simple explanation of the origins of the highly differentiated sound colouring and the throb and chirp of the Afro-Cuban polyrhythms: he succinctly remarked that each member of the multi-cultural band »just played the music which he had grown up with.

Just how thrilling this sounds is already evident from the first number on the LP, with its sounds of nature, twisted rhythms, and little snatches of melody, which – as in several other titles – remains spellbinding even without the fascinating drive of Santana’s lead-sound. Of course there is plenty of solo material on the guitar which manifests itself in exuberant improvisations with a fusion of rock, salsa and jazz elements. When listening to this well-oiled rhythm machine, one quite rightly gets the impression that this unique band has stretched itself to its limits, and it is not by mere coincidence that they split up shortly afterwards. What has remained is one of the most powerful Santana records ever made.

SANTANA ABRAXAS NUMBERED LIMITED EDITION 180 GRAM AUDIOPHILE MFSL LP

Rolling Stone 500 Greatest Albums of All Time - Rated 207/500!

Ranked in the top 50 picks of the Absolute Sound's Buyer's Guide 2009! TAS Audiophile Demo Disc! Rated a 'Best Audiophile Label Recording' in the November 2009 issue of TAS! TAS Rated 4/5 Music, 4/5 Sonics in the March 2008 Issue of The Absolute Sound!

Santana's Abraxas is now on Numbered Limited Edition 180g Vinyl from Mobile Fidelity Sound Labs!

This MFSL remaster corrects Historic Production Error! Music is NOW presented in Correct Channels for the First Time Ever! Widely Hailed as Santana’s Masterpiece!

Picking up on the momentum of the band’s excellent 1969 self-titled debut and drifting into edgier, more versatile territory, Abraxas is the confident sound of Santana stretching out and carving its own Latin rock subgenre. The 1970 set immediately captured the public’s ear, spending six weeks as the nation’s #1 album and spawning the cosmic “Black Magic Woman” as a Top 5 single that’s since become one of the most widely recognized songs in history. A confluence of celebratory vibes, bluesy jams, mellow vocals, and hip-shaking grooves, Abraxas is a cornerstone of any music collection and nothing short of legendary.

Mysticism and spirituality abound. Wild, free, and loose, Santana conjures the feeling of mountains and rivers on the lead-off instrumental “Singing Winds, Crying Beasts,” leads a salsa parade on the definitive version of Tito Puente’s “Oye Como Va,” and explores its sensual side on the stellar showcase “Samba Pa Ti,” a tune indicative of the album’s Latin vibes and percussion. Sonically, Abraxas takes advantage of studio techniques such as cross-fading and mixing lacking on its predecessor.

“Dissatisfied with the sound of their debut, the group brought in as a co-producer veteran jazz engineer Fred Catero, whose skills proved invaluable in balancing the new range of musical flavors Santana [was] bringing into its sound: the result was a giant step on from [the band’s] debut.” –The Mojo Collection book on the Greatest Albums of All Time

But just like 1969’s equally essential Santana, also available on an exquisite-sounding pressing from Mobile Fidelity, Abraxas lays claim to one of the biggest (and unfortunate) production gaffes in music history. Until now, Abraxas has never been heard correctly. After securing the original analog master tapes, Mobile Fidelity engineers realized a colossal mistake had been made. For nearly four decades, copies were produced with the left and right channels reversed, meaning that everything was placed in a backwards manner. This even extended to compilations on which individual songs from Abraxas were included.

Now, for the first time, you can listen to Abraxas the way it was meant to be experienced, with the instruments and musicians placed in the proper channels. THE SOUND WILL KNOCK YOU OUT. In addition to correcting the imaging, Mobile Fidelity’s collectable version captures the stunning tonal range of Santana’s guitar as well as the nuances of his distinctive touch. Every imaginable detail is brought to the forefront and properly scaled, be it Gregg Rolie’s purring organ, Jose Areas’ timbal and conga beats, or the fluid pulse of Dave Brown’s bass. YOU’VE NEVER HEARD SANTANA SOUND MORE SPACIOUS, AIRY, TEXTURED, OR DYNAMIC.

"Mobile Fidelity has done an excellent job with its remastered vinyl editions. Abraxas is a very fine-sounding record, with terrific air, rich textures, a fine mix, and spacious soundscape. MoFi's version is palpably warmer, airier, and more dynamic than (the) old Columbia pressing, which sounds a bit wiry." - Wayne Garcia, The Absolute Sound, March 2008, Issue 180

"Black Magic Woman," the Top Five hit from Abraxas, is definitive Santana: Afro-Latin grooves and piercing lyrical psychedelic blues guitar. It was a cover of a Fleetwood Mac song written by one of Carlos Santana's guitar heroes, Peter Green. The album's other hit was also a cover: Tito Puente's "Oye Como Va." -

SANTANA SANTANA NUMBERED LIMITED EDITION 180 GRAM AUDIOPHILE MFSL LP

Rolling Stone 500 Greatest Albums of All Time - Rated 149/500!

Numbered, Limited Edition! Half-Speed Mastered!

Featured in Michael Fremer's Heavy Rotation in the March 2008 Issue of Stereophile!

This is Santana's first record on Numbered Limited Edition 180g Vinyl from Mobile Fidelity Sound Labs.

Originally released the same month as their incendiary set at Woodstock, this impressive debut for Columbia kick-started a Hall of Fame legacy that lasts still today. Establishing one of the most instantly recognizable sounds in rock; Carlos’ signature tone and phrasing coupled with Afro-Cuban percussion virtually launched Latin-Rock fusion. Both AM and FM airwaves were scorched in the ensuing months with their charted singles Evil Ways (#9) and Jingo (#93) plus Soul Sacrifice, a favorite after it’s featured spot in the Woodstock movie and soundtrack.

"Mobile Fidelity has done an excellent job with its remastered vinyl editions. Santana was never great-sounding-it's a bit murky in the lower midrange, with relatively hard left-right instrumental placement-but this pressing brings a newfound clarity and dynamic life to it." - Wayne Garcia, The Absolute Sound, March 2008, Issue 180

"The first two times Santana tried to record their debut, they scrapped the tapes. But the third time, they came up with Santana, which combined Latin rhythms with jazz-inspired improvisation, hard-rock guitar and lyrical, B.B. King-style blues — and even had a hit single, "Evil Ways." Back then, a lot of Carlos Santana's guitar playing was fueled by psychedelic drugs. "I don't recommend it to anybody and everybody," Santana told Rolling Stone in 2000. "Yet for me, I feel it did wonders. It made me aware of splendor and rapture." For millions of people, Santana did the same thing." -
