      "A GLORIOUS DAWN"!

CARL SAGAN (featuring STEPHEN HAWKING), composed and arranged by JOHN BOSWELL (Third Man Records #020 one-sided 45 with etched reverse and fold-over picture cover, 2009): UNPLAYED MINT sealed.

"A still more glorious dawn awaits

Not a sunrise, but a galaxy rise

A morning filled with 400 billion suns

The rising of the Milky Way"

OUT OF THIS WORLD!  Unusual and historic recording featuring samples of Carl Sagan "singing" whale songs ("WHOOOP!...AHHHHHH..."), mixed with excerpts from Carl's famed Cosmos series (1980), and Stephen Hawking's Universe series (1997); a unique composition and scarce collector's item.

The 3'20" creation by Bellingham, Washington resident John Boswell fills one side of this single, and the other side sports a etched replica (see 3rd photo) of the diagram from the golden records on NASA's Voyagers I and II.  These cosmic cookies, and their host spacecraft, are whizzing out of our solar system (currently over 11 1/2 billion miles away, traveling at a speed of about 10 miles a second).  The photo that leads this description is of one of those gold-plated copper discs.  These Voyager records, which Carl Sagan had a crucial role in creating, contain earth photos and sounds, including a snippet of Chuck Berry that inspired a famous SNL joke (aliens return a message pleading, "send more Chuck Berry").  Shortly before the deep-space probes were launched in the mid-'70s, Sagan had to intervene when pointy-headed NASA administrators threatened to replace the discs with BLANK records due to a supposed violation of protocol. (...really?)

But we digress.  This 45 was created after John Boswell's video of A Glorious Dawn went viral in 2009, becoming one of the most popular music videos in web history (7 million views and counting!).  Jack White's Third Man Records issued this limited-edition, etched reverse 45 on November 9, 2009 (the 75th anniversary of Carl Sagan's birth; we lost him at 62 in 1996).  Here's a pristine UNPLAYED MINT example of this already-hard-to-find single with its picture cover, still sealed in plastic...

One only...don't miss it!
