· YARDBIRDS - LITTLE GAMES - ORIGINAL 1967 EPIC RECORDS MONO LP LN-24313
· ORIGINAL US PRESSING
· ORIGINAL YELLOW EPIC LABEL WITH BLACK PRINT
· IMPORTANT NOTE: IN 1967/68, THE COLUMBIA RECORDS-AFFILIATED LABELS (SUCH AS COLUMBIA, ODE AND EPIC) PRODUCED A LARGE NUMBER OF MISPRESSINGS (ALBUMS BY YARDBIRDS, SPIRIT, BOB DYLAN AND SIMON & GARFUNKEL COME TO MIND) WHERE STEREO COPIES WERE MISLABELED AS MONOS AND VICE VERSA. CLOSE TO 40% OF ALL KNOWN MONO COPIES OF THIS ALBUM WERE “FALSE” MONOS: STEREO PRESSINGS MASQUERADING AS MONOS – THIS IS ONE OF THE PRECIOUS FEW COPIES WE HAVE FOUND WHICH IS BOTH LABELED, AND ACTUALLY PLAYS, MONO)
· VERY RARE MONO PRESSING, MANY TIMES RARER THAN STEREO
· THIS IS THE ORIGINAL, AUTHENTIC, FIRST U.S. PRESSING; THIS IS NOT A REISSUE, AN IMPORT, OR A COUNTERFEIT PRESSING.
· ORIGINAL, THICK CARDBOARD COVER (AMERICAN STYLE)
· CLEAN, WEAR-FREE LABELS
· THICK, HEAVY VINYL PRESSING
· MATRIX NUMBER IN TRAIL-OFF VINYL (DEAD WAX) ENDS WITH "-1E/-1D". ON SOME LABELS, THIS INDICATES THE VERY FIRST, ORIGINAL PRESSING

This is the FINAL Yardbirds’ studio album – an album on which Jimmy Page took over the helm from Jeff Beck. Initially butchered by the critics and buying public alike, the album aged with remarkable grace and became one of the venerable Yardbirds classics.
Track listing: Little Games - Smile on me - White Summer - Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Sailor - Glimpses - Drinking Muddy Water - No Excess Bagage - Stealing, Stealing - Only the Black rose - Little Soldier Boy
***
If almost any group other than the Yardbirds had released Little Games, it would be considered a prime late '60s artifact, instead of a mild disappointment. Not that it's a bad album — it just lacks the polish of the group's other LPs. The Yardbirds' blues roots and progressive tendencies clashed with the pop-rock preferences of their record company-mandated producer, , resulting in a hastily done and uneven LP. The two best cuts were "White Summer" and "Drinking Muddy Water," excellent showcases for the experimental and bluesy sides of the band; both, curiously, were also virtually thefts, "White Summer" lifted from 's arrangement of "She Moved Thro' The Fair" and "Drinking Muddy Water" a rewrite of ' "Rollin' and Tumblin' ." The best of the rest included "Only the Black Rose," a strangely beautiful, moody acoustic psychedelic piece; "Stealing Stealing," an unusual (for this band) pre-World War II style acoustic blues; and "Smile On Me," a hard, bluesy number that could have come from any part of the group's history. The attempt at a catchy rocker, "No Excess Baggage," however, needed more work; the power-chord laden "Tinker Tailor Soldier Sailor" sounded more like than the Yardbirds, though it did introduce 's violin bow discourses on the guitar; and "Little Soldier Boy" was a silly pop-psychedelic piece more appropriate to than the Yardbirds.

· CONDITION:
· RECORD
(IMPORTANT NOTE: unless otherwise noted, ALL records are graded visually, and NOT play-graded!; we grade records under the strong, diffuse room light or discrete sunlight)
(a) WE GRADE THE VINYL AS EXCELLENT. This is one of those albums that are somewhat difficult to grade. It is somewhere between VG++ and NEAR MINT, just a notch below NEAR MINT. A few light abrasions ARE visible, but they are extremely shallow, superficial and only moderately visually distracting (nothing significant). For the most part, the vinyl looks impeccable without any MAJOR visual flaws or imperfections. Much of the original luster is intact, and the vinyl shines and sparkles almost like new.
(b) The record is pressed on a beautiful, thick, inflexible vinyl, which was usually used for the first or very early pressings. Usually, the sound on such thick vinyl pressings is full-bodied, vivid, and even dramatic. Do not expect to obtain such a majestic analog sound from a digital recording!
(c) Mono pressing of this title is much rarer, and by far more preferable to its stereo counterpart. We think that the mix is more natural, humane, "organic" and that the mixes are somewhat different than on the stereo version. We estimate that stereo copies of this album outnumber mono pressings by a ratio of at least 10:1.
(d) Of course, this is a full-bodied ANALOG recording, and not an inferior, digital recording!!!
· COVER
THE COVER IS NICE --- ABOUT VERY GOOD++ (VG++).
The following flaws or imperfections are noted on the cover:
- Cover has a small, neat, circular cutout hole in one of the corners
- Cover has some ring wear. On the scale from 1 to 10 (1 being the least, and 10 being the most severe), we assess the severity of ring wear as 4 (front side) and 5 (back side)
- Back cover has circular tarnish (grayish, dust-covered sections, which closely follow the contour of the record), probably caused by friction or by rubbing against other covers during the storage. The tarnish is similar in appearance to a common ring wear, but, UNLIKE ring wear, these grayish areas may be possible to clean up with a minor effort and with a right cleansing solution.
- Cover shows some light yellowing on both sides, apparently from aging (nothing significant).
- Cover has a few tiny wrinkles along the spine
- Visible shelf wear noted on the bottom seam.
- Cover has some fraying/wear along the upper seam
- Cover has two corners slightly worn / dinged (nothing significant)
- Back cover has a few yellowish dust speckles scattered here and there (these tiny spots are not overly obtrusive or distracting)
NO OTHER IMPERFECTIONS ON THE COVER:
- No split seams (yet, but the top is close)
- No cut-out corners
- No saw-marks or indents
- No writing
- No stamps
- No peel-off marks
- No mold or mildew spots
- No stickers or labels
- No water damage
- No razor marks, scratches, pressure marks, lines, streaks, or cuts.
- No warping
- No wax, glue, paint or liquid drops on the cover
- No glue traces or wax residue.
- No bar codes
- No RIAA stamps or stickers.
