BEATLEMANIACS! We just purchased a HUGE BEATLES COLLECTION (nearly a THOUSAND items!); we'll be listing Fab Four collectibles as fast as time allows...so add us to your favorite sellers list, and keep an eye on our buy-it-now bargains and rare auction finds! Here's today's GEAR listing:
A HARD DAY'S NIGHT/THINGS WE SAID TODAY (Parlophone 5160 UK 1st pressing w/company sleeve, 1964): Clean VG+/M-.
Excellent VG+/M- example of the title song from The Beatles' 1st movie, issued in the UK in '64. Paul's luminous Things We Said Today is the original flip side (changed on Capitol's U.S. release to I Should Have Known Better). It's got clean labels and pristine vinyl; we even include the correct Parlophone company sleeve. Difficult to find in decent condition on this side of the pond.
These 1st pressing UK singles are notable for a couple of reasons: for one thing, they were issued in much smaller quantities than U.S. Capitols and VJs; the Brit market isn't anywhere near the American in size. In addition, the sound of original UK singles is far superior to that of U.S. releases, which were commonly mastered from second-, or even third-, generation tapes. Collectors and audiophiles have complained for decades about the muddy sound of Capitol's 1960s Beatles records!
The relatively-rare UK 1st pressing 45s may be the "final frontier" for many American collectors...
