'When we are talking about really rare and great albums from Mexico, such as El Tarro de Mostaza, Kaleidoscope etc. Los Ovnis' Hippies is perhaps the second rarest one right after Kaleidoscope. The band already made four LPs with cover songs for the same label. The 1968 Summer of Love and the political protest of the young rebel culture created the desire to produce a stronger album with own songs, heavier garage sounds and counter-culture lyrics. The album became something the Mexican society was not ready for. It was too idealistic and too psychedelic to become popular and the original label released it with no promotion at all. That's why this album became so good and so rare. Los Ovnis are five musicians from Mexico City. Strong garage sounds, great Spanish vocals, amazing guitars, organ and rough sounds. Like a musical punch in the face of the Mexican middle-class society. No more nice guys.'

'Los Ovnis is a legendary Mexican band whose Hippies album is full of originals with trebly fuzz guitar-work, farfisa organs and, in places, it has a punky edge. The opening cut Mugre sets the tone for much of what follows with catchy organ and drums. Cuando Era Nio features an effervescent vocal performance. Hear that church organ sounding intro on Mi Protesta. The final track on side one Fe is distinctive for religious-type chanting. There are also three great organ-led garage-punkers on the album, Infinito and the two closing tracks - Ya Se and Te Doy Tu Lugar. There's also a very credible cover version of The Doors' Light My Fire (Enciende Mi Fuego.)' - Vernon Joynson/Dreams, Fantasies And Nightmares
