USA FIRST PRESSING DOUBLE VINYL LP IN SEMI-GLOSSY GATEFOLD SLEEVE WITH NO BAND CREDITS, 'PRODUCED BY DAVID GILMOUR' TOP MOST CREDIT, ORIGINAL LYRIC INNER SLEEVES PLUS 'PINK FLOYD THE WALL' BLACK ON WHITE PAPER INSERT.
Why buy a first or early pressing and not a re-issue or a ‘re-mastered’ vinyl album?
First pressings are made from first generation lacquers and stampers. They usually sound vastly superior to later issues and re-issues (which are often pressed from whatever tapes or digital sources are currently available).
Many recent vinyl pressings claim to be mastered from ‘original tapes’ and are pressed on expensive 180g vinyl. Sonically, they frequently sound disappointing when compared to a decent condition first pressing. All too often, they sound like a CD pressed onto vinyl.
If you want the best analogue reproduction possible from vinyl, it is always a better investment to seek out original pressings in clean playing condition. They nearly always have more immediacy, presence and dynamics. The sound staging is wider, and subtle nuances are better placed with more spacious textures. Balances are firmer in the bottom end with the bass far tighter. Upper-mids shine, and the overall depth is more immersive. Inner details are clearer, and the music tends to sound more ‘alive’.
MATRIX NUMBERS IN RUN-OFF GROOVES: PAL-36184-1F TML-X / PBL-36184-1E TML-S / PAL-36185-1AE / PBL-36185-1D TML-M.
SLEEVE: VERY GOOD+, JUST LIGHT SHELF, RING, EDGE, SPINE AND CORNER WEAR. INNER SLEEVES HAVE A EFW CREASES, NICKS AND MIDDLE SEAM SPLITS. INSERT HAS AN EDGE CREASE.
DISCS: VISUALLY VERY GOOD+ THAT PLAY MOSTLY EXCELLENT MINUS. NO SCRATCHES, MINOR SPINDLE WEAR, SOME LIGHT PLAY SCUFFS, FINGERRINTS AND HAIRLINES. CLEAN LABELS. 'THE WALL' IS ALWAYS HARD TO FIND ON PERFECTLY SILENT VINYL BECAUSE SO MANY WERE PRESSED PRIOR TO RELEASE - CLEARLY THERE WAS SOME OVER-PRESSING TAKING PLACE FROM ALL THE STAMPERS MANUFACTURED. THIS PARTICULAR COPY ON OFFER HAS REALLY GOOD AUDIO WITH THE ODD STATIC POP OR CLICK IN THE QUIESTEST OF PASSAGES DUE TO THE DYNAMIC RANGE OF THE RECORDING AND THE PRESSING ITSELF. IF YOU KEEP THE DISCS AND YOUR STYLUS CLEAN, AND USE AN ANTI-STATIC BRUSH, THIS COPY WILL PROVIDE MOSTLY EXCELLENT AUDIO.
