Led Zeppelin were an English  band formed in London in 1968. The band consisted of guitarist , singer , bassist and keyboardist , and drummer . The group's heavy, guitar-driven sound, rooted in  on their early albums, has drawn them recognition as one of the progenitors of , though their unique style drew from a wide variety of influences, including .

After changing their name from the New , Led Zeppelin signed a deal with that afforded them considerable artistic freedom.
