I am selling some duplicate BEATLES and BEATLES-RELATED LPs from my collection. So, please check my other auctions.
IN THIS AUCTION:
· “THE BEATLES vs THE FOUR SEASONS” by The Beatles and The Four Seasons
· This is Vee Jay Records DX-30, a two record set.
· The LP contains 2 MONO (monaural) RECORDS.
· This LP was issued in August, 1964.
· As you probably know, Vee Jay, for a short period of time in 1963-1964, held the rights in the U.S. to a handful of Beatles songs that the record company recycled several times by selling the same LP in different covers. The buying public quickly realized that they were not acquiring any new Beatles’ material in each Vee Jay album they purchased. Instead, they were buying basically the same Beatles’ tunes when they purchased “Introducing the Beatles”, “Songs, Pictures & Stories of the Fabulous Beatles” and “The Beatles vs The Four Seasons”, the last one listed being the LP in this auction.
· The Beatles’ disc in this LP is repackaging of “Introducing the Beatles”, and the Four Seasons disc in this LP is a repackaging of the Four Seasons’ “Golden Hits” LP.
· About 18,000 mono copies were sold.
· The LP was originally issued with a Beatles poster which is NOT included in this auction.
· The labels on the discs in this auction have Vee Jay’s BRACKETS LOGO. (Copies were also issued with the oval Vee Jay logo.)
· It is important to note concerning the vinyl that the Vee Jay logos, LP titles, and song titles on all four of the labels on the two discs are all similar, so it seems that these 2 discs came with this cover and have stayed together all these years.
· The GATEFOLD COVER is in VERY STRONG VG CONDITION. It has moderate overall wear and a couple of repaired seam splits. I have provided images of the top and bottom seams. The bottom seams are nice, clean, and strong. The top seams were split and repaired and show the most amount of wear with sporadic flaking nearer to the spine. The edges of both the front and back cover at the opening have some areas where portions of the white slick are gone. There is wear at the top and bottom of the spine, at the top and bottom corners at the opening, and a half-inch portion of the slick is missing at the top of the spine. Inside the gatefold cover, there is a rather small split beside Ringo’s head. (Please refer to the images to see what I have described.)
· NOTE: The score card on the rear cover has NOT been filled in. Often I’ve seen this LP with numbers written on the score card.
· The VINYL of the Beatles disc is in STRONG VG CONDITION with some surface scuffs/hairlines.
· The VINYL of the Four Seasons disc is in WEAK VG or VG MINUS CONDITION with numerous scuffs/hairlines/scratches some of which will be audible.
· Despite its blemishes I noted, the cover images are NICE with minimal wear, and you know how tough it is to find this LP these days!
