Mongo Santamaria--"Mongo in Havana--Bembe" (1960) Fantasy LP cat # 3311

Mongo returned to his hometown of Havana, Cuba in 1960 and took his best friend Willie Bobo with him, the only non-Cuban that took part in 2 recordings sessions in La Habana. One was a charanga album and this album is authentic afro-cuban rumba y guaguancó music, a traditional bembé!  Side 1 is for the dieties and side 2 is for the feet. The recording features the legendary rumberos Carlos Embale and Mercedita Valdés on vocals. This was the last time US based musicians traveled to play and record in Cuba until the 1977 Havana-NY exchange with David Amram, Stan Getz, Dizzy et al

As seen above,LP cover shows some fading and there is slight edge wear.  Front cover is glossy-shiny.  Back cover shows some discoloration on bottom seam There's the original owner's name and address above side II listings. I have had this LP for over 25 years and have never played it. Bi-lingual liners. There's an ink written R on top left corner.

Red vinyl side one is nearly flawless, side 2 has an ever so slight 2 to 3 inch stylus mark not felt to the touch......
