I am selling some early, rare, and rather obscure Beatles LPs to downsize my vinyl collection. So, please check my other auctions too.
In this auction is a DOUBLE RARITY: 1) The Version 2 Column Back cover lists “Please, Please Me” WITHOUT the comma AND 2) the LABELS on the vinyl are MISMATCHED, one label with the VJ OVAL LOGO and the other side’s label has the VJ BRACKETS LOGO.
Here are the details:
· “INTRODUCING THE BEATLES” by The Beatles
· This is Vee Jay Records VJLP 1062.
· It was released beginning February, 1964.
· This is Version 2 of this LP with column back cover that includes the cuts “Ask Me Why” and “Please Please Me” which replaced “Love Me Do” and “P.S. I Love You” which are on Version 1 of this LP.
· The LP in this auction has the VERY RARE VEE JAY COVER THAT DOES NOT HAVE A COMMA IN THE song title “PLEASE, PLEASE ME” AT THE TOP OF THE SECOND COLUMN ON THE REAR COVER.
· According to the Price Guide for the Beatles American Records by Perry Cox & Frank Daniels (and I quote):
“The cover without the comma is rarer
and it increases the value of the cover”
· Also, according to the Price Guide for the Beatles American Records, the VJ record that was issued in this cover should have Oval Vee Jay logos on black labels with color band.
· HOWEVER, the record in this auction has MISMATCHED LABELS: The Side 1 Label has the Vee Jay Oval Logo, but the Side 2 Label has the Vee Jay Brackets Label!!!
· I have had Vee Jay 45RPM records with mismatched labels, but I haven’t seen mismatched labels on a Vee Jay LP before this one.
· BOTH COVER and VINYL are ABSOLUTELY AUTHENTIC! So you can bid with confidence that you are receiving the real deal and not a counterfeit.
· The COVER is in VG CONDITION. There is moderate overall wear and corner wear. There is some age and glue spotting on the rear cover and some light flaking on the top seam.
· The VINYL is in VG CONDITION. There are some surface hairlines/scuffs, but there is a “feelable” scratch on the last track on side 2. The vinyl still has lots of gloss. The mismatched VJ labels make this vinyl a real collector’s item, for sure!
· This is certainly NOT a common “Introducing the Beatles” version 2 LP!!!
· This is a VERY RARE VEE JAY COVER and RECORD for your vinyl collection!
Thanks to the Price Guide for the Beatles American Records by Perry Cox and Frank Daniels for information about this record.
FYI: I use the COVER/SLEEVE GRADES and RECORD GRADES listed and described on page 8 of Perry Cox’s Price Guide for the Beatles American Records. I use these grades, Good+ (G+), Very Good Minus (VG-), Very Good (VG), Very Good+ (VG+), Near Mint Minus or Very Good++ (NM- or VG++), Near Mint (NM), Mint Minus (M-), and Mint (M or MT), to VISUALLY grade the 45s and picture sleeves I auction, so please know the descriptions of these grades before bidding. Please ask any questions BEFORE bidding. And please check my other auctions for other records you may want to add to your collection.
