The band currently consists of (lead vocals), Ian Grushka (bass guitar), (lead guitar, backing vocals), and Cyrus Bolooki (drums). Longtime rhythm guitarist and lyricist departed from the band in late 2013, following "personal differences." During their lengthy , the band have released nine , one , two , and three .
Emerging as part of the in the late 1990s, music critics consider them a key pioneer of the genre. Labelled the "godfathers of pop punk", credits them for "practically serving alongside the work of as the blueprint to the entire genre for the early 2000s." Also renowned for their energetic live performances, the band has garnered a since their inception.
Dashboard Confessional is an American band from , led by singer-songwriter . The name of the band is derived from the song "The Sharp Hint of New Tears" off their debut album, .
Dashboard Confessional's first recording was the , initially a solo side project of Chris Carrabba while he was in the band .
The following year, , with , recorded and released its debut album, . Carrabba soon thereafter left the band to record and release his second solo album, , and a follow-up EP, ; both were released under the name Dashboard Confessional.
By 2002, three other musicians had joined the band, including former Further Seems Forever bandmate Jerry Castellanos, and started the process of recording the band's next album. After the success of his second album, Carrabba was asked to perform on , and the subsequent marked the first time many of the songs were recorded with a full band.
Also in 2002, the music video for "" won the MTV2 award at the MTV Video Music Awards, beating out , , , , and . This video starred Chris in both the performance and the storyline. The video was directed by and Matthew Barry.
