Extra info: KILLER PROG/JAZZ !! Fantastic 1st UK VAN DER GRAAF GENERATOR album from 1970!! Original UK 1st pressing !! So, so hard to find, one of Van Der Graaf Generator's all time classic albums and here it is where it all came together from start to finish although the predecessor was awesome in its own right!! Splendid  prog album in great VG/EX  condition!! This will be a great  acquisition !!! This has the original pink scroll  label. A great copy of this album, rarely ever seen these days.  Weight of the vinyl: 142 gr., far heavier than any later re-issue!

Brief Artist & Album Info: This was  the first UK album and another progressive classic. Fronted by the fairly eccentric and intense vocalist Peter Hammill, VDGG made some of the most complex and inspired sounds of the early to mid-70s. David Jackson, the saxophonist often played two simultaneously creating a mesmerising sound and often an amazing racket. These electric reeds were heavily treated and made the dual saxes sound more like eight! Musically complex using constantly changing time structures and like fellow progsters, King Crimson their albums have great highs and lows in volume. This album preceded the legendary H to He and Pawn Hearts, and for me it is totally on par with those classics. A marvellous original band that were under-appreciated at the time, but adored by the few (myself included) – Hammill remains one of rock’s great exponents of originality and mildishly extreme.

I have played this in FULL> The replay is ASTOUNDING!!! There are not any jumps or skips. Some light static mainly at the beginning of each side!! The heavy vinyl with high groovewalls provides a great audio experience with channelling not equalled by the later re-issues. I played this on my Technics turntable with a Linn cartridge and through my very revealing B&W three way speakers!!! A beautiful CLASSIC with supreme songcraft, a joy to listen to!!!! The labels are the earliest ROUGH TEXTURED kind.

Vinyl: EX.  Both surfaces retain their original deep, glossy sheen.  There is just one wispy hairline trace on each side. These are only visible under a very strong light. There are no marks. The vinyl looks as just over the counter in normal light and has been carefully looked after for decades.
Outstanding audio delivery in all respects with a crystal clear, deep, rich, warm and detailed sound and on playback at a loud volume (which is how I always listen to my LPs prior to listing and it's always an immense pleasure to return to this one). On the start of each side there is light static but not intrusive. The whole LP sounds absolutely great and plays to a very high standard with superb clarity, no groove-wear and no distortion. Of course, NO skips, NO jumps.

While this is the second album in the Van der Graaf Generator catalogue, it is really the first proper album by the band and also the first released in the UK. Their first album, The Aerosol Grey Machine had been written and recorded as a solo record by singer and main songwriter Peter Hammill, but because of a deal with the record company, was released under the Van Der Graaf Generator name. This first album was not released in the UK but just in Germany and the USA.

Gatefold Sleeve: EX.  A splendid example of this very hard to find LP. A great well looked after copy without any issues. Quite remarkably it lacks any creases. Only the lightest of wear to the bottom edge and an extremely crisp opening.  It will be a tough task to still improve on this copy. Of course NO creases, NO tears, NO writing.

Though there are rarely ever any problems with my items, I always try my very best to describe everything exactly!  PLEASE REMEMBER to contact me FIRST,  if you have any problems at all, before you leave feedback and star ratings, so I get a chance to turn any negative experience into a positive one!  I can always happily sort anything out for you, if you let me know you have a problem!  This way no one has to leave Negative/Neutral feedback - and we both walk away happy! Similarly with the amount of stars, anything less than a full 5 * rating is effectively detrimental to a seller's rating as lower ratings will incur higher Final Value Fees  and lower priority in the bidlists eventually making it unattractive to list items on Ebay at all. I know of at least one major previous Ebay seller who has decided not to list via Ebay again. Please do NOT bid if you cannot give me at least 1 chance to sort everything out to your FULL satisfaction in the unlikely event of a problem.  Thanks again!!

This an excellent investment opportunity!!! Any questions please ask me and I will try to answer soon.
