THE WHO SINGS MY GENERATION vinyl LP from 1973 USA MCA MCA-2044

This is a very rare pressing of the My Generation lp. It was pressed in the USA on MCA records in 1973 after MCA closed down the defunct US Decca label, but almost immediately afterwards they decide to release it as a double album together with The Who On Tour LP and promptly deleted this one.

This album has the first (John Entwhistle playing trumpet) recorded version of Circles, Shel Talmy produced the session, but left the song off the UK issue of the album. The Who soon re-recorded the song with Kit Lambert producing, without the trumpet and released the song on Ready Steady Who EP in UK. Shel Talmy threatened legal action, so when The Who released the same song as a b side to Substitute, they re-titled it Instant Party. But this did not fool Shel Talmy, forcing The Who to issue a different b side for future pressings (Waltz For A Pig). Following this, in 1966, Shel Talmy then released the My Generation album in the USA, calling it The Who sings My Generation. He included Circles (under it’s new title Instant Party), in place of I’m A Man. More modern issues of the song have tended to fade the trumpet into the background but on this MCA album it is loud and clear.

This US album was issued only in a slightly simulated stereo.

GRADINGS All gradings are visual and strictly based on the standard established by Record Collector magazine. Sleeve very strong VG ( wear to all spines, light record rim wear, a fine score near top of opening edge leading towards the S of MCA records and some very slight shelf wear. All intact no cuts, tears or splits.) Record strong EX (a couple of light surface marks.)

POSTAGE Please note that I will obtain a proof of posting on every item I send. This will give a limit of compensation of up to £20 in case of the record not being delivered and this will cover the majority of my items sold. On the occasional time when a record or total combined records is sold for more than this additional payment may be given to cover the higher value of compensation. Please note that international compensation is generally similar but Royal Mail's conditions for international compensation must apply.

I use Small Parcels first class service in UK and airmail small parcels service for international. Please note that I send albums in heavy duty purpose bought mailers together with stiffener and I prefer to send first class to give you the best service and reliability. Also note that I will always give an overall discount for more than one purchase when I can combine postage fees. This will not be a standard fee as I will always take into consideration the actual weight of the final packet – album weights vary considerably eg double albums, gatefold sleeves, heavy cardboard sleeves, thicker (60’s) records etc.  If you want to know in advance how much P&P would be for more than one item, send me a message stating which albums you are hoping to win and I can then give you a firm quote. I am able to offer substantial savings by combined post and packing charges for more than one album, so an additional one or more albums will not add much more to the P&P cost. Also note that I also offer a reduced second class post for UK which although not significant for just one record, can make significant savings for several combined records (although will take longer to arrive).

PAYMENT CONDITIONS All prices must be paid in pounds sterling. Payment to be made within 3 days. Personal cheques from UK only accepted but item will not be sent until cheque cleared. Paypal accepted.
