AND 'BUTTON UP YOUR JACKET') FROM ARETHA FRANKLIN'S UNRELEASED 1965 ALBUM ("A LITTLE BIT OF SOUL"), PRODUCED BY BOB JOHNSTON, BOB DYLAN'S PRODUCER ('BLONDE ON BLONDE', ETC.), WHICH WOULD NOT SEE THE LIGHT OF DAY IN IT'S ENTIRETY UNTIL THE RELEASE OF THE 2011 'TAKE A LOOK' COLUMBIA BOX SET, ALMOST 50 YEARS LATER.

 LIKE IT'S TWIN SISTER (ARETHA'S 'TAKE A LOOK' ALBUM - PLEASE SEE OUR OTHER AUCTIONS FOR THAT TITLE) 'TAKE IT LIKE YOU GIVE IT' WAS RELEASED DURING THE FINAL QUARTER OF 1967, RIGHT ON THE CUSP OF INDUSTRY-WIDE TRANSITION FROM MONO TO STEREO FORMAT, THUS MAKING MONO COPIES OF THIS TITLE EXQUISITELY HARD TO FIND; THIS IS THE FIRST COPY WE HAVE SPOTTED SINCE AT LEAST 2000; STILL SEALED MONO COPIES ARE ALL BUT UNKNOWN

 

 

·       NOTE: WE CAN SEE THE ORIGINAL PERFORATED PLASTIC BAGGY PROTRUDING FROM THE OPENING SIDE. THIS MEANS THAT THE RECORD IS NOT ONLY STILL SEALED – IT IS MOST LIKELY SEALED TWICE!!!! (FIRST IN ITS INNER, PERFORATED PLASTIC BAGGY AND THEN AGAIN IN ITS ORIGINAL SHRINKWRAPPED COVER). THIS TYPE OF INNER SLEEVES (PERFORATED PLASTIC BAGGIES) WAS USED BY COLUMBIA BETWEEN 1956 AND 1967 AND WAS DISCONTINUED AFTER 1967. NO STEREO REISSUES ARE EVER FOUND IN THE PERFORATED PLASTIC BAGGIES (AND NO MONO REISSUES EXIST IN ANY FORM)

(a)          THE ALBUM IS STILL FACTORY SEALED AND IS BELIEVED TO BE PERFECTLY MINT. Please note: sealed items are assumed to be mint and are sold as-is, as we have no way of inspecting them. For our policy on still sealed records ►.

 

(b)          The record is  apparently pressed on a beautiful, thick, inflexible vinyl, which was usually used for the first or very early pressings. Usually, the sound on such thick vinyl pressings is full-bodied, vivid, and even dramatic. Do not expect to obtain such a majestic analog sound from a digital recording!

 

(c)           The record is STILL in its original inner, perforated plastic baggy (we can see it through the opening)

 

(d)          Mono pressing of this title is much rarer, and by far more  preferable to its stereo counterpart. We think that the mix is more natural, humane, "organic" and that the mixes are somewhat different than on the stereo version. We estimate that stereo copies of this album outnumber mono pressings by a ratio of at least 15:1.

 

(e)           Of course, this is a full-bodied ANALOG recording, and not an inferior, digital recording!!!

The following flaws or imperfections are noted on the cover:

 

-         Cover shows JUST A HINT of yellowing on back side, apparently from aging.

 

-         Cover has one corner slightly dinged (nothing significant)

 

-         Cover has a few tiny wrinkles along the spine  (BARELY VISIBLE)
