Between charting a pair of hits from his Blue Ridge Rangers LP in 1973 & hitting it big in 1985 with Centerfield, John Fogerty wandered in Pop's wilderness for almost 12 years with only one Top 40 hit.  Rockin' All Over The World reached #27 in 1975, but follow-up Almost Saturday Night, despite being one of the greatest songs John ever wrote (just as good as his CCR hits!) stalled at #78.

He gave it one more try with You Got The Magic (we prefer flip side Evil Thing) in 1976, but the single stiffed at #87 & Fogerty wouldn't chart again for nine years.  That's a LONG drought, especially for a brilliant talent.  Welcome back, John!

Creedence Clearwater Revival is widely acknowledged as an American rock 'n' roll band of the first rank; a remarkable assessment, considering their relatively short recording career.  They released 12 singles & 7 LPs on Fantasy Records in the 5 years 1968-1972.  They never had a chart-topper, but scored five #2 hits; from Proud Mary to Have You Ever Seen The Rain, every one of their singles made the Top 10.  By the end of their run they were a trio; John Fogerty's brother Tom (1941-1990), the original lead singer/manager of the band (as Tommy Fogerty & The Blue Velvets) decided to go solo in 1971.  After the prophetically-titled 1972 single Someday Never Comes stalled at #25, John disbanded CCR.  It was a fateful decision; he wouldn't reach the top ten again for 12 long years.  Fogerty's solo resurgence began in earnest with classic 1984 LP Centerfield & he's been chooglin' ever since.
