Jackie Brenston and His Delta Cats (Ike Turner and His Kings of Rhythm) / Rocket "88" / CHESS/Third Man 45 / MINT!
Songs: Rocket "88" & Come Back Where You Belong
Mint 45 by Jackie Brenston and His Delta Cats. Issued on the Chess label by Third Man Records in 2017 from original masters.
Rocket "88" is considered by many rock 'n' roll fans to be one of the very first true rock 'n' roll records, partly because of the distorted guitar that makes its appearance toward the end of the record, with Ike Turner on the historic lead guitar.
Originally recorded in March 3 or 5 of 1951 in Memphis by Sam Philips and released in April 1951 on the Chess label. Artist's credits on the record were changed by Chess Records from Ike Turner and His Kings of Rhythm to Jackie Brenston. Brenston was the sax player and vocalist for Ike Turner's band. Beautiful ground breaking song.
Earnings from this record were used by Sam Phillips to start the world famous Sun Records label back in 1952!
