John Mayer's third studio album Continuum follows the multi-platinum Room For Squares (2001) and Heavier Things (2003) and marks his first turn as producer. On the heels of a pair of multi-platinum albums and three Grammy Awards, John Mayer has stripped things down to the bone by forming the John Mayer Trio with drummer Steve Jordan (Bruce Springsteen, Rolling Stones) and bassist Pino Palladino (the Who, Jeff Beck). The trio's sold-out fall tour has now been documented with a live album, John Mayer Trio Live. The recording from the House of Blues in Chicago includes both Mayer originals and the Trio's interpretations of cover songs.

Mayer and his cohorts use words like "natural" and "organic" when talking about the way the group came together, and for good reason. The three players broke the ice, performing Jimi Hendrix's "Bold As Love" for the Tsunami Aid benefit and a month later they reteamed for the Grammys, doing Mayer's double-award winner "Daughters".

According to Mayer, "I've just decided to go to my next place, and my next place is Steve Jordan and Pino Palladino. It's a very thought-out process of taking what excites me about Eric Clapton and B.B. King and Buddy Guy and Blind Faith and Derek & the Dominos and the Band and Cream, taking elements of all that and place it in my thing..."

The much anticipated fifth album by John Mayer was delayed due to throat surgery. The record was largely finished before he had recovered enough to finish recording vocals. The singer/songwriter recently told Rolling Stone "I think it's gonna be more organic, more natural lyrics and chords and artful simplicity."

Born and Raised was produced by John Mayer with Don Was who worked on albums for acts such as the Rolling Stones, B.B. King, and Bonnie Raitt.  Rock legends David Crosby and Graham Nash provide vocals on the title song, "Born and Raised".  Musicians joining Mayer on the album and on the road include highly-regarded keyboardist/pianist Chuck Leavall, best known for his work with the Rolling Stones, Eric Clapton and the Allman Brothers Band - as well as previous collaborators Sean Hurley on bass and Aaron Sterling on drums. The first single "Shadow Days" features Mayer on steel-lap guitar.

Mayer's previous albums - Room For Squares, Heavier Things, Continuum,  and Battle Studies - have sold more than 12 million copies combined.  He has been honored with seven Grammy Awards and an additional 11 nominations.  He has also been included in Time Magazine's annual Time 100 list of the most influential contemporary thinkers, leaders, artists and entertainers, and twice been featured on the cover of Rolling Stone Magazine's annual "Guitar" issue.

Room For Squares (whose very title, not to mention Mayer's studied regular-guy cover pose, bespeaks the revenge of the nerds) accordingly trades in acoustic guitar-based folk-rock tempered with just enough 21st-century freshness to keep its practitioner in the Billboard charts (and his listeners' hearts). That's not to say Mayer's music is calculated; he's got a real feel for melody and a distinctive lyrical style.
