Tap Dancing Technique Al Gilbert Grade 2 Instructional Vinyl LP Record VG+
Vinyl / Jacket Grade per Goldmine Standard: VG+ / VG+
Al Gilbert, a leading authority on graded tap techniques, has been teaching tap-dancing for over 30 years. In constant demand at dance seminars throughout the world, Al has taught in Canada, France, England, Scotland and Germanjr, as well as in the United States. He is professor of tap- dancing at California State University at Fullerton, California. He has been a guest lecturer at the University of Alberta in Canada, the University of North Carolina at Charlotte and at Pasadena City College in California. Students at various dance schools in the U.S.A, and Canada are presented with an Al Gilbert Certificate of Accomplishm ent after they satisfactorily pass their examinations in tap-dancing. Many teachers, as well as pupils, look forward to the Al Gilbert annual summer Dance Camp at Agnes Scott College in Atlanta, Georgia. The language of tap-dancing is “American,” even in non-English- speaking countries. The specialized vocabulary of this art form can be learned with ease from these records because Al teaches it in his own voice. This proves to be a valuable instructional aid to both student and teacher. While Al’s voice, in essence a representation of the teacher’s voice, is calling out the instructions, it allows the teacher to pay more attention to observing the student’s performance and making corrections. Of course these records are the perfect means of allowing the student to practice at home and thus learn tap-dancing more rapidly. Al Gilbert’s Theatre, Dance and Music Studios in Hollywood serve as a training center for many a professional dance celebrity. It is there that Al’s original material is created. It is then presented to dance teachers everywhere. This series of 12" long-playing albums of Graded Tap Techniques has been completely revised and contains much new and important material. The accompanying notes are clearly written and readily understandable. The series of lessons begins with basic, preparatory steps, then progresses by easy stages to more complex variations. Each grade (except #7) includes a barre, centre floor exercises, combinations, and in some cases, complete dances. The carefuly devised routines, the special music and the correct terminology are all used in such a way as to help the student acquire confidence, as well as strength, knowledge, flexibility and a complete awareness of the technique of tap-dancing. All aspects of preparing these records were personally supervised by Al Gilbert. All grades are also available without vocal instruction (music only). Stepping Tones Records offers over 200 Training Aids (T.A.s) to correspond with every Grade of dance. Many teachers, as well as students and their parents have said that these graded technique records put real pleasure in learning how to tap-dance.
