So it was only natural that Walt Disney should turn to the lovely ballet score for the background music to his motion picture, Sleeping Beauty. The rich melodies and themes of seventy years ago blended perfectly with modern animation, and the result was a collection of tunes filled with jovial lightness and wistful sentiment to fit the delightful characters. As in all Walt Disney animated features, enchanting characters come to life and entertain millions of people throughout the world; characters such as the beautiful Princess Aurora and her Prince, the evil witch Maleficent, and the bumbling but good- natured three Fairies who do all in their power to protect their beloved Princess. The result of the combination of Tchaikovsky with the famous trademark of Walt Disney’s characters and songs has been a magnificent presentation for the eye and especially the ear. Sleeping Beauty was premiered in January of 1959 in a theater especially designed for its presentation. This was the climax of six years of work and an invest- ment of six million dollars!
