ASTONDING MINT MINUS AUDIO
FULL SET OF CORRECT 1ST ISSUE INSERTS
FISRT PRESS VINYL A1/B1
MINT MINUS SLEEVE
CATALOGUE:2406 001MATRIX: 246001 A//1 11 7 / B//1 11 3
HAS THE FULL SET OF FIRST ISSUE INSERTS
WHEN THIS ALBUM WAS FIRST RELEASED, THE FIRST BATCH OF LPS WERE ISSUED WITH A SLEEVE THAT HAD A BLACK TEXT STAMP. THERE WERE O0NLY 300 OF THESE MADE
THESE ARE FEW AND FAR BETWEEN THESE DAYS.
THE SECOND AND THIRD RELEASES ARE MUCH MORE PROMINENT. THE MOST COMMON ONE IS IN RED, AND THE OTHER WAS FOUND IN BLUE.
A BLACK SLEEVE IS VERY SOUGHT AFTER AMONGST COLLECTORS WHO WANT THE VERY FIRST EXAMPLES AVAILABLE
THE LABELS
THE LABELS ON THIS ALBUM, LIKE THE REST OF THE SET WAS MADE TO LOOK LIKE A BOOTLEG, SO INSTEAD OF THE USUAL BLACK TRACK LABELS, THESE WERE ISSUED ON A WHITE LABEL WITH BLUE TYPEFACE. THE WHITE SURFACE IS STILL A BRILLIANT WHITE AND HAS NO STAINING OR HANDLING MARKS AT ALL. THE WHITENESS EXTENDS ALL THE WAY INTO THE UNWORN SPINDLE HOLE. THERE ARE 3-4 VERY LIGHT SPIDER LINES CLOSE TO THE HOLE INDICATING THE LP HAS HAD ONLY A FEW VERY CAREFUL PLAYS SINCE 1970.
THE LABEL ALSO STATES "CRACKLING NOISES OK. DO NOT CORRECT" THIS IS BECAUSE THERE WAS A MIKE CABLE LOOSE DURING THE RECORDING AND THIS CAUSED SOME CLICKS THROUGHOUT THE RECORDING. IT WAS DECIDED TO LEAVE THEM IN FOR AUTHENTICITY.
THE VINYL
VERY GLOSSY AND PRISTINE EXAMPLE OF THIS ALBUM. THE LP HAS CLEARLY BEEN HANDLED CORRECTLY AS THERE ARE NO MARKS OR SCRATCHES ON THE SURFACE OF EITHER SIDE, AND IN DAYLIGHT IT LOOKS TOTALLY FLAWLESS. EVEN WHEN OFFERED UP TO SPOTLIGHTS CAN I MAKE OUT A COUPLE OF TINY WISPY HAIRLINES.
PLAYING THE RECORD
THE LP STARTS WITH A SILENT RUN IN TO TRACK ONE " YOUNG MAN". LIVE AT LEEDS SET THE STANDARD FOR LIVE ALBUM IN THAT THE PRODUCTION WAS ABSOLUTELY ASTOUNDING. THE RECORDING IS VERY LOUD AND THE STEREO PRODUCTION IS SECOND TO NONE.
IT IS CLEAR FROM THE OFF THAT THERE IS NO WEAR TO THE GROOVES AS THERE IS NO DISTORTION TO BE HEARD ANYWHERE.
EACH TRACK PLAYS TO ABSOLUTE PERFECTION. CRYSTAL CLEAR AND FREE FROM AND UNWANTED NOISES. JUST THE ODD CRACKLE THAT IS MENTIONED ON THE RECORD LABEL
NO EMBEDDED VINYL NOISE
BOTH SIDES PLAY SUPERBLY AND I HAVE RECORDED THE ENTIRE ALBUM SO THAT YOU ARE ABLE TO LISTEN TO IT BEFORE DECIDING TO LAY A BID.
I HAVE NO HESITATION IS GRADING THIS SUPERB FIRST PRESS AS MINT MINUS
THE SLEEVE
AS PREVIOUSLY MENTIONED THE RUNNING ORDER FOR THESE SLEEVE MAKE A BLACK STAMPED COVER THE FIRST ISSUE AND HARDEST TO FIND.
DESIGNED TO LOOK LIKE A BOOTLEG IT IS NO MORE THAN A BROWN SLEEVE HELD BY TWO STAPLES TO SECURE THE INNER POUCHES THAT CONTAIN 12 INSERTS, AND THE LP. THESE STAPLES WERE FAR TOO WEAK TO HOLD THIS LOT AND MOST COPIES YOU WILL FIND WILL BE SPLIT AND IN VERY SHABBY CONDITION DUE TO THE POUROUS NATURE OF THE SLEEVE.
HERE THEN IS A SUPERB EXAMPLE OF THE FIRST PRESS BLACK TEXT SLEEVE
FIRSTLY THE BLACK STAMP IS VERY PROMINENT AND HEAVILY INKED, PARTICULARLY 'THE WHO' WHICH IS DARK AND VERY SHARP. 'LIVE AT LEEDS' ONLY SHOWS A VERY LIGHT FADING OF THE IMAGE, BUT STILL HEAVILY INKED. FAR CLEARER AND SHARPER THAN MOST YOU WILL SEE, AND FINALLY 'TRACK 2406001' IS ALSO CLEAR AND SHARP AND HEAVILY INKED
THE TWO ORIGINAL STAPLES ARE BOTH FIRMLY IN PLACE AND NEITHER OF THE INNER POCKETS HAVE BEEN DAMAGED OR SPLIT.
THE SURFACE HAS A LITTLE AGEING TO THE SPINE EDGE AND A LITTLE ON THE TOP EDGE.
UNUSUALLY THERE ARE NO SATINS ON THE COVER
THERE IS A VERY LIGHT SHADOW OF RECORD SHAPE ON THE REAR
THE POLY LINED INNER SLEEVE HAS SOME AGEING TO THE EDGES, BUT IS THE DEFINITIVE CORRECT ISSUE HAVING THE DATE 07/70 PRINTED IN THE BOTTOM RIGHT CORNER
THE INSERTS
THERE ARE AND ALWAYS HAD BEEN 12 INSERTS THAT MAKE UP THIS SET, A LOT OF SELLERS WILL LIST ANYTHING FROM NONE TO 10, BUT IT IS A FULL SET OF TWELVE THAT YOU NEED.
THEN AGAIN THERE ARE FIRST ISSUE INSERTS AND THEN THERE ARE THE REST. IF YOU ARE GOING TO THE TROUBLE OF SEEKING OUT A FIRST PRESS SLEEVE AND VINYL I AM CERTAIN YOU WOULD WANT THE FIRST ISSUE INSERTS.
AN EASY TELLTALE IS THE LARGE POSTER. THE FIRST ISSUES HAVE 'MAXIMUM R & B, TUESDAYS AT THE MARQUEE,90 WARDOUR STREET ON THEM, WHEREAS THE LATER ONES HAVE THE TRACK PRESSING CATALOGUE NUMBER AND 'LIVE AT LEEDS'
OTHER IMPORTANT FEATURES IN A FIRST ISSUE SET ARE
THE PHOTO OF THE BAND IS CLEAR AND SHARP, PARTICULARLY THE EYES, WHERE ON LATE ISSUES THESE ARE DULL AND UNCLEAR
THE OVERHEAD GUITAR PICTURE MUST BE FOLDED IN THE MIDDLE AND HAVE BLUE WRITING ON THE BACK (NOT BLACK)
THE DELIVERY NOTE MUST HAVE TEXT THAT ACTUALLY LOOKS LIKE IT WAS DONE ON A TYPEWRITTER, NOT LOOKING LIKE A POOR PHOTOCOPY
THE CLUB INSET MUST HAVE BLUE WRITING ON IT NOT BLACK AND HAVE HOLE PUCHES TO THE LEFT WHEREAS THE LATER ONES DIDN'T HAVE THEM
THE PREMIER TALENT INSERT MUST BE ON YELLOW FLIMSY PAPER AND THE RECEIVED STAMP MUST BE CLEAR WITH ALL OFTHE DETAIL WRITTEN IN
THE HIGH NUMBERS INSERT AGAIN MUST BE ON YELLOW FLIMSY PAPER, FOLDED IN THE MIDDLE
THE NEW ACTON INSERT MUST HAVE BLUE TEXT AT THE TOP AND FOLDED IN THE IDDLE , LATER ONES ARE NOT
THE KINGS AGENCY INSERT MUST HAVE BARRY PERKINS SIGNATURE IN BLUE BIRO INK NOT BLACK, AND HOLE PUNCHED TO THE LEFT , LATER ONES WERE NOT
THE MY GENERATION INSERT MUST HAVE THREE HAD WRITTEN ASTERISKS ON IT NOT TWO AS THE LATER ONES HAD
THE NOTICE INSERT MUST HAVE MR LAMBERT-WHO WRITTEN (LATER ISSUES WERE MISSING 'WHO ' BECAUSE IT IS FAINT AND WITH MULTIPLE COPYING BECAME INVISIBLE. ALSO 1ST ISSUES ARE HOLE PUCHED LATER ONES ARE NOT
THE EMI RECORDS LETTER IS MADE OF THINNER PAPER, LATER ONES WERE THICKER
THESE 12 INSERTS ARE ALL IN IMMACULATE CONDITION
THE LARGE POSTER DOES HAVE A PIN HOLE IN EACH CORNER
THIS SUPERB SET IS IN EXCEPTIONAL CONDITION AND WOULD GRACE ANY COLLECTION
GOOD LUCK WITH YOUR BID IF YOU CHOSE TO GO FOR IT
