The Aberdeen Squad – Aberdeen Squad Sings..
Label: Aberdeen Football Club – AB 004
Format: Vinyl, 7", 45 RPM, White vinyl
Country: UK
Released: 1983
Genre: Pop
Style: Theme, sports, novelty
A The Aberdeen Squad – European Song
B The Aberdeen Football Squad – The Northern Light Of Old Aberdeen
A fairly typical singalong football anthem (with bagpipes!) that celebrates the Dons’ appearance in the 1983 European Cup Winners’ Cup Final. The white vinyl single was re-released in a redesigned sleeve due to demand after the team's victory, but the one I'm listing is the first version which has the following hand-etched matrix numbers;
A side - AB 004-A' / B side - AB 0024-B'
'European Song' features the singing talents of players Jim Leighton, Gordon Strachan, Alex McLeish, Willie Miller, Mark McGhee, Eric Black and John Hewitt (the last two scorers of the winning goals) while the B-side doesn’t feature any of them, just the musicians used.
Sleeve condition G, it's well creased/worn but is unfaded and intact with no splits to the edges.
Vinyl condition VG+, there's some noise at the start of each track but soon settles in to a decent sound with no loud pops etc.
This is one of the rarer football records out there but I have reduced the price because of the below par sleeve condition.
PLEASE NOTE: I do not
"sight-test" records and list with comments like "vinyl looks to be in
good condition". This is because a disc can look perfect but still have
surface noise throughout (as I've found on too many occasions). All my
records are played from start to finish on a fairly unforgiving Sansui
deck fitted with an Ortofon cartridge and stylus.
