VARIOUS: The House That Track Built (Track, 613016, 1969, LP)
This is a copy of the hard to find in EX/EX condition STEREO UK pressing (A//1 & B//1) of this 13 track compilation released by Track Records in the UK in either April or September 1969, depending on who you believe.
According to the notes accompanying a copy that sold for rather a lot of money depite being in worse condition than THIS copy:
"This LP contains two exclusive Who mixes - a true stereo version of 'A Quick One While He's Away' & a studio version of 'Young Man Blues' - The studio version of this song has only been legitimately released on this record - contrary to what the liner notes say, the "Odds & Sods" reissue (MCA #MCAD-11718) does not contain this version but has a totally different studio version.
It also contains the first Fairport Convention single 'If I Had A Ribbon Bow', two tracks each by Jimi Hendrix & The Crazy World Of Arthur Brown, along with tracks by Thunderclap Newman, John's Children with Marc Bolan, an early Clinton Parliament's tune & more. The sleeve was designed by David King, who did the superb Electric Ladyland & Axis: Bold As Love covers."
The standout track as far as I am concerned is the wonderful If This Is Love (I'll Rather Be Lonely), by the Precisions.
Track listing: A1. The Who: Magic Bus A2. The Jimi Hendrix Experience: All Along The Watchtower A3. The Sand Pebbles: Love Power A4. The Who: Young Man Blues A5. Precisions: If This Is Love (I'll Rather Be Lonely) A6. Thunderclap Newman: Wilhemina A7. John's Children: Desdemona
B1. The Crazy World Of Arthur Brown: Fire B2. The Jimi Hendrix Experience: Purple Haze B3. The Parliaments: (I Wanna) Testify B4. Fairport Convention: If I Had A Ribbon Bow B5. The Crazy World Of Arthur Brown: The Devil's Grip B6. The Who: A Quick One While He's Away
The sleeve is a strong EX and the record plays at EX or better with just a couple of random pops (and I mean a couple) to remind you that you are listening to a 54-year-old record. The inner sleeve is the original Polydor/Phonogram poly-lined one with "27 1/069" manufacturing date. Does that mean January or October, I wonder!
* * * * Records generally have hairline marks from going in and out of sleeves - I do not mention these unless they cause audible noise. All records are play tested unless explicitly stated otherwise. Most of the records I am selling play at "Excellent" or "Very Good" as per Record Collector grading. Any specific defects are otherwise described in the listing. Please look at the photos carefully for condition of sleeves/labels.
All items won, up to a value of £50.00, will be sent as Royal Mail 'signed for'. If items are bid above £50.00 (or multiple items combine to more than £50), they will be sent as Royal Mail Special Delivery, so that parcels are correctly insured against loss or damage in transit. If you win multiple items, please wait for me to invoice with correct postage. Note that the postage costs stated include packaging costs. Where possible, packaging will be recycled but sturdy/secure.
Combined postage *for UK buyers only* - 6 single LPs costs the same to post as 1 single LP. Note that if you win items in multiple formats, (e.g., an LP and a CD), these have to be sent as multiple parcels (though I can bundle up 7" records with an LP).
*Non-UK bidders* please note that I use eBay's Global Shipping Programme, which means every item won has to be packaged and sent separately so combined postage is not possible.
Non-paying high bidders will be blocked from bidding on future items.
* * * * Unless stated otherwise, all items are from my own collection. Most has been in storage for nearly 20 years. Lockdowns made me wonder why I have multiple copies of records that I will never listen to. There are about 8,000 more items to come from my rambling progressive, jazz fusion, folk, blues, 1950s stereo classical and easy listening, psychedelic, reggae, ambient, spoken word, comedy, railway, field recordings, electronic and occasionally just plain 'out there' collection.
