After the double-sided hit single "She's Not There" b/w "You Make Me Feel Good" topped the U.S. charts in the fall of 1964, Parrot Records quickly culled together this LP for 1965 release. The dozen tracks were taken from material the Zombies cut for their 1965 U.K. debut album, Begin Here. Also included are "It's Alright With Me" and "Sometimes" from the combo's self-titled EP. Regardless of presentation, The Zombies (Featuring She's Not There and Tell Her No) aptly portrays the quintet of Chris White (bass), Rod Argent (keyboards/vocals), Colin Blunstone (guitar/vocals), Paul Atkinson (guitar), and Hugh Grundy (drums) in terms of the band's fresh blend of intelligent Brit-pop. Their efforts are equally laudable on the strength of originals such as "Tell Her No" and "What More Can I Do" as they are on the blue-eyed soulful medley interpretation of the Miracles' "You've Really Got a Hold on Me" with Sam Cooke's "Bring It on Home to Me." This is stylistically complemented by the R&B rave-up on Muddy Waters' "I Got My Mojo Working" and the ultra hip jazzy arrangement of the Gershwin standard "Summertime." The Zombies' obvious appreciation for adeptly crafted melodies and rich vocal harmonies likewise made them favorites of pop fans as well as more discerning listeners. "Work 'n' Play" is an instrumental credited to producer Ken Jones. Initially, the piece was simply used to fill out the long-player. That was until the tune was more fully developed by the band, and under the direction of Argent's fiery lead harmonica they turn the proposed filler into a rock & roll killer. Those wishing to obtain a more thorough examination of this era are directed to the decidedly more thorough 2001 Repertoire reissue of Begin Here or the "final word" four-disc Zombie Heaven anthology from 1997.

(EXCERPT FROM AN ONLINE REVIEW BY LINDSAY PLANER, ALL MUSIC GUIDE  /ALLMUSIC.COM/)

All original albums by The Zombies (and there's only a few of them to begin with) are very coveted, quite valuable and highly collectable, especially ORIGINAL MONO pressings, such as the copy of this classic Zombies  album we are offering here. This is the album which pretty much defined the British (pre-Blues) invasion and Beat movement; Mono copies of this incredibly rare 1965 album are about 20 times harder to find than the "fake" stereo versions, and sound about as many times better!!! The mono sound brings up all the grit as well as finesse in Colin Blunstone and Rod Argent's playing, in addition to the gorgeous melodies and harmonies Zombies were known for.  Don’t be a Zombie – it’s the time of a season to grab this awesome classic 'British Invasion' album now.

Track listing: She's not there - Summertime - It's alright with me - You've really got a hold on me - Sometimes - Woman - Tell her no - I don't want to know - Work'n'Play - Can't nobody love me - What more can I do? - I've got my old mojo working.

·      CONDITION:

·      RECORD

(IMPORTANT NOTE: unless otherwise noted, ALL records are graded visually, and NOT play-graded!; we  grade records under the strong, diffuse room light or discrete sunlight)

(a)         WE GRADE THE VINYL AS EXCELLENT. This is one of those albums that are somewhat difficult to grade. It is somewhere between VG++ and NEAR MINT, just a notch below NEAR MINT. A few light abrasions ARE visible, but they are extremely shallow, superficial  and only moderately visually distracting (nothing significant). For the most part, the vinyl looks impeccable without any MAJOR visual flaws or imperfections. Much of the original luster is intact, and the vinyl shines and sparkles almost like new.

(b)         The record is pressed on a beautiful, thick, inflexible vinyl, which was usually used for the first or very early pressings. Usually, the sound on such thick vinyl pressings is full-bodied, vivid, and even dramatic. Do not expect to obtain such a majestic analog sound from a digital recording!

(c)         Mono pressing of this title is much rarer, and by far more  preferable to its FAKE ("electronically rechannelled") stereo counterpart. We estimate that FAKE stereo copies of this album outnumber monos by a ratio of at least 5:1.

(d)         The record is STILL in its original inner, perforated plastic baggy, which has - apparently with success - shielded the record from the harmful impact of elements over many years!

(e)         True Stereo copies of this album are NOT known to exist.

(f)          Of course, this is a full-bodied ANALOG recording, and not an inferior, digital recording!!!

·                          THE COVER

THE COVER IS ABOUT VERY GOOD+(+)

The following flaws or imperfections are noted on the cover:

-       A visible water stain  (VISIBLE ON BACK SIDE ONLY)  affects about 15% of the back panel along the bottom seam; there is no structural damage to the cover, and both cardboard base and paper slick are intact, however, the stain is visible and has caused visible yellowish discoloration and a slight warp in the affected area.

-       Cover shows some light yellowing on both sides, apparently from aging.

-       Cover has one corner slightly dinged (nothing significant)

-       Cover has a small, rectangular, sticker residue (small white discoloration from the removed price sticker); the residue is in bottom right corner of the back panel and not easily visible

NO OTHER VISIBLE FLAWS OR IMPERFECTIONS ON THE  COVER
