"Darby's Castle" for about the fifth time, and like it so much I thought I would write you all a short note to let you know just how I feel about it. It's some of the best work I've heard in a long time, not only from you, but from anyone. I knew you were good, but my goodness, I didn't know you were GREAT! The arrangements you have come up with are all simple, and to the point, which is what we all work for when we make records. You’ve included some of the older tunes, which I enjoy hearing again. "NO MOTHER OR DAD" and "SOMEHOW TONIGHT", the old Flatt and Scruggs songs are done very well, yet in your own style. "DRIFTING AWA Y". from the 1960s Bill Monroe collection, and our (THE OSBORNE BROTHERS) "LISTENING TO THE RAIN" are both done equally as well and, once again, THE KNOXVILLE GRASS, style keeps coming through. "SONG FOR SUSAN" gets Jimmy a broken right hand when I see him again, for playing the banjo so well and tastefully. There is one place in particular, near the end, that I like very much. Then, of course, the end- ing itself, with the ban/o and guitar doing all that pretty twin stuff . . SIMPLY BEAUTIFUL!!!! Seems to me, you have gone all out on this album to tell us (the other Bluegrass pickersj-and the whole record buying public THE KNOXVILLE GRASS has arrived. You've put together a truly great album. The modern sounds are here, and the older sounds are here, but mainly, and most important, your sound is here. So what you've told us on this record, is most definitely true The Knoxville Grass has arrived and I guess it's time, again, for all of us to kmda move over a little bit more, and make room for another great band. Thank you Darryl. Jimmy, Mike, Glenn and Paul for permitting me to hear this album before it is to be released to the public. If "Darby's Castle" can be rebuilt with music, someone (THE CARPENTERS) should be get- ting ready for the job.p Very Sincerely/- / Sonny Osborne THE OSBORNE BROTHERS, Allied Entertainers, Inc.
Thank you for your business.
